Life & Work with Ashley Woodruff

Hi Ashley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a recording artist of the pop and adult contemporary genres from Sudbury, Ontario. My passion for music and songwriting began early, leading me to pursue vocal lessons and receive classical training. My love for music intensified as I grew up, and I constantly sought new opportunities to perform. During my teenage years, I attended Sudbury Secondary School as a vocal music major, and participated in the Kiwanis Music Festival while uploading my song covers online. The positive feedback encouraged me to start writing, and eventually releasing my original music. After high school, I continued to gain valuable experience by performing in Sudbury, briefly forming a duo with rapper, Sherice McCoshen. I later met musician/producer, Rob Murphy, and we formed a musical partnership. In November 2017, I released my self-titled debut album. I now have several musical works, the latest being my live-off-the-floor single, Free. Between having the opportunity to release original music, perform across Ontario, and even make a couple of TV appearances, it’s never a dull moment!

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think of them as struggles, but more as learning opportunities. When I first started, I knew little about booking shows, producing music, promoting on social media, etc. I learned everything by asking for help along the way and doing research. I am very fortunate for everything I’ve learned so far!

Thanks. What else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Along with music, I’ve also had the opportunity to learn all about design. I’ve designed song/album covers, posters, and even my website. Something I’m proud of, and what I’m known for is my authenticity. This is especially true regarding the unique sound of my voice. I always preach the importance of being and staying true to yourself. Remain authentic, you will always stand out from others.
