Life & Work with Anton Mackey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anton Mackey.

Hi Anton, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Since a young child, I have always had a strong connection to the movement of my body, and the mystical connection to the Divine. Fast forward to my late 20s and a very stressful time in my life. It was the search for stress & anxiety relief that led me to find the yoga practice and my purpose in life!

On August 14, 2008, I walked into At One Yoga Scottsdale and took my very first class with Johanna Epps. What I found was the relief I was looking for and so much more! Instantly, I knew it was what I had always been searching for and I would eventually share this practice with others.

I went from being a fitness & sports conditioning coach into a full-time yoga teacher within 2 years (much gratitude to Vanessa Lee for giving me endless opportunities). I immediately began teaching at yoga festivals, guest teaching at studios around the country, and leading yoga retreats & teacher trainings.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course, every journey has its bumps in the road, and I have learned many lessons along the way becoming the teacher, coach, father, and husband I am today.

I believe lack of awareness and the ego is responsible for any and all struggles (misalignments) that we encounter.

When we establish a higher standard and take responsibility for our lives and the choices we make, life takes a path of greater ease.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have been teaching my own style of power/flow vinyasa classes for over 12 years.

With a degree in anatomy & physiology, I specialize in teaching anatomical alignment while also incorporating deeper aspects of self-awareness and empowerment. I have been known for my arm balances and inversions and my ability to take students beyond their edge and out of their heads.

I have been blessed to have many wonderful opportunities to share the practice with thousands of people but my most proudest moment has been stepping into the role as a father to my two sons.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I honestly feel that success has everything to do with being able to lead a life of passion and purpose.
