Life & Work with Anna Taylor Lowe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Taylor Lowe.

Anna Taylor Lowe

Hi, Anna Taylor. We appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started doing makeup when I was 14. I loved watching the show “Face Off” when I was younger, but it wasn’t until I watched the movies Saw & Hostel that I started taking makeup seriously as a career. When I was 16, I started working at haunted houses doing makeup and getting into acting. I did that for many years but unfortunately wasn’t getting anywhere, so when I decided to move out of Colorado to Arizona, I started looking into acting classes. Once I got into acting classes, I began meeting people & networking myself. That is how I started being able to do makeup for student films.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been easy getting to where I am right now. I try my best to do my best on every look, but at the end of the day, I struggle with horrible anxiety. I always felt like I could have done better on makeup looks & so that is a big struggle I’ve had to work on over the years. I had to learn that not everybody will like what I do & not everybody will support me & that’s okay. When it comes to makeup or anything creative in general, it’s all about trying & failing & trying again till you get it right.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I’m a makeup artist (Glam & SFX) & an actress. I think many people would know me for being the girl who is super obsessed with horror movies & constantly doing SFX makeup & always having new & crazy ideas. I recently did makeup for a short horror film called SLASHED that hopefully will be out in 2024 & I’m so excited for everyone to see it. I have always been that person who has worked very hard, especially when it’s something that I enjoy doing. I love sitting down with whoever I’m working with & coming up with new ideas & being able to bring this cool, creative idea to life.

Are any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
When I started getting into makeup, I watched this YouTuber & her name is Mykie & her channel is called Glam & Gore. She has been one of my biggest inspirations for being an artist. I loved reading anything by R.L. Stine & Stephen King growing up. I was obsessed with Tim Burton & his movies, which is why I want to work in the film industry today.
