Life & Work with Angie Francisco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Francisco.

Hi Angie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have taken photos ever since my mom taught me how to use a camera in elementary school. Creativity has always run through my blood-from being a musician, artist, and a photographer. My grandparents who immigrated here to the United States in the ’70s kept their love for music and zest for life evident in my own life. I give credit to my talent to them. During high school, friends and family began asking me to shoot various gigs for events, senior portraits, and then soon enough-weddings. I went on to complete a photography certificate at Sierra College in Northern California where I learned the history of photography, how to develop my own film in a dark room, and various manipulation techniques in graphic design. I have had a slow but steady progression with my photography business here in Arizona. I am a sucker for the gentle desert light when the sun touches the mountains. Moving here to Phoenix has expanded my creative lens in ways I didn’t know it could be stretched.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being able to advertise myself as a photographer in a new city without connections at first resulted in zero business. After a few months of living here, I have established a network where I now shoot with fitness portraits (which is a new realm I have never ventured into prior to moving here), engagements, and weddings are now ramping up. Patience has been by far my biggest lesson.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a professional portrait photographer specializing in weddings, engagements, and senior portraits. I am known for my gentle sunny moments that I capture-often with couples. I am most proud of my completion of a certification since I did not know in high school how far it would take me. I am an extremely minimal photographer-you can rarely see me carry anything else besides one camera. I strongly believe that good photography lies in the photographer, not the camera.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Presence. Everyone needs a breather in their day to remember where they are in the business of life. Being able to capture a couple’s vulnerable moments and direct them to simply gaze at each other reminds me why I do what I do. And I love it.
