Life & Work with Angel Murchison of Phoenix / Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Murchison.

Hi Angel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Mommies Minis Cupcakes was started with a passion for sharing my love of cupcakes with others. My grandmother taught me how to bake before I could even cook at a very young age. She taught me that if you bake with love, the joy will always be felt by others through your desserts.

My love for mini cupcakes came from convenience and visual appeal. I started this business on a college campus 12 years ago based out of necessity. My student organizations needed food at their events. Something “donated” or low cost that would attract attendees and as an advisor I wanted to assist. I began making cupcakes for various student group events. Which led to eventually baking cupcakes for all size events, personal, private, corporate, and community.

This business has had success in multiple states and spaces by providing the luxury of homemade goods like mini cupcakes, cookies, brownies, pies, cake jars, and more. We love setting up at local farmer’s markets, catering corporate events, adding that special touch to a wedding, or simply making any celebration that much sweeter with a luxury, homemade, sweet treat. My ultimate goal is that my love of baking be shared with all of those around me.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No road to a dream that you have is smooth. I’ve faced many challenges. Being a Mother of 3 would probably be my biggest. It is tough trying to be a “Super Mom” and nucleus of my household while also chasing my dreams of entrepreneurship. My family is a great support system but it still can be challenge.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the Owner & Personal Baker of Mommies Minis Cupcakes. I like to think of myself as my own personal C-Suite. The CEO, CFO, COO, allllllllll the C’s.

I am known for mini cupcakes, with Red Velvet being our signature flavor. Mini cupcakes and sweet treats that have a luxury look, feel, and taste.

I am most proud of being able to operate my business in many different settings. I have provided cupcakes for events like baby showers, brunches, office parties, holiday events, weddings, and the list goes on.

I think something that sets me apart from others is my attention to fine details and quality flavor. I believe we eat with our eyes 1st and I was always want to ensure my products are visually appealing for my customers.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe with no risk, there is no reward. We all wake up everyday and take a chance on ourselves. If we didn’t, there would be no progress or growth. Taking risks teaches you so many things about yourself and your resiliency.

The biggest risk I have ever taken was rebranding and starting my business in a new state where I had zero support. I started from scratch! While living in Seattle for 4 years, I decided to rebrand and relaunch my cupcake business. It was a lofty risk but I knew I wanted to prove to myself I could do it! And, I did!
