Life & Work with Ana Ita

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Ita.

Hi Ana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a love for hair and makeup & keeping up with the latest trends while adding my own creative touch.

When my sister became a stylist I always wanted the new color styles done on me and I would pay attention to the process as she would create a new look on my hair. Together we would explore different and fun techniques.

In 2015, I graduated ahead of schedule from cosmetology school, because of my dedication and love for the beauty industry. Shortly after I received my Cosmetology license, I was working as a top stylist at a Downtown Detroit – Salon.

I have switched up my hair color… maybe too often! Having naturally dark & curly hair one week and then going platinum blonde the next, my hair was begging for a recovery! I then realized I had to come up with a solution for my hair that other brands couldn’t provide. That’s when I created, my shampoo and conditioner line, TAMED.

My dad (being in the navy my whole life) was one of my biggest fans and always encouraged me to reach for the stars. We would sit together and talk about my goals and things I wanted to accomplish. When he became terminally Ill, I wanted to show him I would continue to reach for the stars.

Which inspired me to get my business license as well, it was time for me to take my business to the next level, by growing my clientele, becoming a registered small business owner, and spreading my brand throughout the country. I was blessed to be able to share that victory with my father before he passed.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

The reason I took my business to the next level was because my dad my main provider was in the hospital bed with news of cancer, with all the anger and mixed emotions I was feeling I knew I wanted to show him that he could depend on me from now on and make him proud.. that’s when I went and applied for a business license and I came to the hospital with the application in my hand showing him with excitement but also fear of losing him, I just wanted him to know that all our talks and goals would be accomplished.. two months later, he had passed 3 days after my birthday & a week later I finally received my business license. That’s when I knew I had to go harder for myself than ever before.

Being a stylist is one challenge… being a business owner and a creator of a brand has taught me to overcome any challenge. Instead of running away from problems I’ve learned to study the issue and create a solution.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?

I style and cut hair but my favorite specialty is color, I really enjoy refreshing a grown out look and bringing it back to its desired color, I absolutely love taking blondes to the next level, and having fun with all the bright vivid colors- like mermaid hair for an example.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a very happy and adventurous person, I was always into styling myself and being extremely girly while also playing sports.

I used to do my mom and sister’s makeup and hair for fun as a child and sometimes it would actually turn out decent. I used to sit in classes and polish my nails and fix my eyebrows or do my lashes, I guess I was always into beauty before I even knew it!
