Today we’d like to introduce you to Albert Estergard.
Hi Albert, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I stood up (in comedy) for the first time toward the end of 2019. It was one of the best moments and feelings of my life. The pandemic hit and delayed pursuing that more in person, so I made a podcast instead.
After three years of building a brand, business, and audience I’m finally getting back on stage again. I’ve hit a lot of milestones and grown a lot (as a person and comedian). Now is the time to jump on my bandwagon before more people, aliens, and anything else able to recognize my genius do.
I got the YouTube channel up if you’re not able to see and support me in person. I am still not getting up as much as I should or would like but I have done more this year than I ever have. I got to be a part of Stir Crazy Comedy Club’s first Funniest Person In The Universe Contest. I was honored to be in the final show of this year for After Dark Tempe House Comedy Show, where I discovered my new favorite stage. I will be getting the podcast back on track soon and some other new projects are brewing that I’m excited to share once the time is right.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a rocky road, like the ice cream. Sometimes I encounter large chunks of marshmallows, like having to go back to working as a cook to make enough money to be poor. Other times there are chocolate-covered nuts (not that kind) like my family and the interference they seem to generate.
Mainly it’s that muck slowing me down as I try to work everything out in my head, but the spontaneous chaos of the universe will blow out a tire on the freeway when your car is full of your family and the dinner for your mom’s birthday. There are also personal problems (physical and mental) but you have to be friends or audience if you want those details.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work changes pretty regularly. There are the jobs I do to survive. Then there are all the comedy, writing, art, and creative projects I’m always crafting, planning, and refining in my giant head. I am cooking again and have somehow managed to maintain a pretty normal 9-5 Monday – Friday schedule that I’m really digging. I would like to finally work for myself so I’m plotting that as well. Comedy is my main focus otherwise.
I’m always looking for what’s funny and figuring out why. Then I mull it over, dwell on it, and share it until it becomes a good bit. I would say now my specialty is cynicism filtered through silliness, and Jesus. Jesus is in every set. I revealed why in my most recent set which you can now watch on the Toonanashoo Podcast YouTube.
I’m most proud when I surprise myself. When I want and work, then what I wanted and worked for is better than I even imagined.
Almost everything about me sets me apart from others. I’ve actually been working on a set to address that. My head is huge, luckily at this point my ears seem somewhat normal because of that and my hair and hats. I care too much, I’m hyper-aware, I’m too smart, there’s too much I want, and I’m able to fulfill that too often and easily with my amazing imagination.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Not remembering my childhood is my favorite, but if I had to choose I loved riding in the car with my dad and looking out the window while I listened to him talk and imagined everything.
