Today we’d like to introduce you to Abigail Ann.
Hi Abigail, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my work in social media when I was fourteen. After my eighth-grade year, I decided to pursue my passion for writing and self-published my first book of poetry.
Months later, I landed an internship at an up-and-coming marketing agency and continued working as a multi-media journalist and producer for three years. Upon leaving the agency early in 2022 on good terms, I decided to dive into the world of micro-influencing and began posting content on Instagram more consistently.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
After being in the industry for nearly six years, there have definitely been obstacles along the way. Writing is not a career full of consistency, and every time I published another book or article there was always a chance that it wouldn’t do well. Often my work didn’t perform as well as I wanted it to.
Similarly, putting out content on social media is usually a toss-up. There are no promises that a video will meet my expectations, despite the effort and time put into it. But that’s also the beauty of being creative. It forces you to be more innovative and flexible.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I dabble in a lot of forms of media. From Instagram Reels to YouTube, to web interviews and books. I’ve tried a lot of different things throughout the years, but something I am most proud of is the web interviews I have conducted with various social media personalities and influencers.
I began a web series and podcast called Girl Talk at the beginning of the pandemic interviewing female creatives over Zoom and posting it on YouTube. After a few months of working on the series, I converted the series into audio and created a podcast on Spotify. This past year I picked up interviewing creatives and hit big when I secured an interview with TikTok star Rodger Cleye (3+ million on TikTok).
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
It’s super important to have a solid support system no matter what career you pursue, but as a creative, it’s crucial to have a support system who also shares the same interests and values as well. I would not be where I am today without the constant support of my ex-boss and current friend Jade Darmawangsa, founder of the media agency I first interned when I was fourteen.
She mentored me throughout my employment at X8 Media and has since supported my work throughout the years. I have also made some incredible friends throughout this journey, both online and during my studies in college so far.
One of them is the digital creator and freelancer Rainee Favela. She has been a huge help to me and never hesitates from supporting her friends. She has done me countless favors and I truly enjoy our friendship.
