Life & Work with Abby Valdez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Valdez.

Hi Abby, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I’m excited for you to learn a little bit more about me and my photography! I am Abby, owner, and operator of Mountain Country Photography. I was born and raised in Prescott, AZ. I have always been a busy bee and go-getter, entrepreneur type and I am passionate about photography!

As a former pre-school teacher, caretaker, barista, military wife, and now a stay-at-home mama, and photographer, I am used to being very busy. I have always been very creative and have always needed a creative outlet. My first real business was created when I was 13, Creations for Nations, selling my handmade crochet. I made beanies to binkie holders and everything in between.

Soon after I started this business, I found photography. This has become truly a passion of mine, not only because I get to help people capture moments in time that will last forever, but because I truly hope to make whoever I’m photographing feel special and important. I love to create moments that fuse together true joy and the beauty of creation and capture those moments on camera.

I began to get serious about photography at the age of 16. By the time I was 18, I had learned from professional photographers, attended weekend seminars on photography, and had shot my first wedding. Photography is something I find joy and beauty in. I am very grateful for all those who have trusted me to be their photographer and those who have been alongside me in this journey.

I am now 24 and have an ever-growing passion for photography and capturing beautiful moments.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been “smooth” so to speak. I have made my mistakes and learned to form them. I never wanted to quit or stop doing what I love because of any mistakes, I moved forward to continue to learn and strive to be a better photographer.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in family and couple photos. I have a passion for capturing the smiley little faces for a family session. I also love between two people and capturing the raw beauty between the two people who selflessly pursue one another.

What sets me apart from other photographers is that I have a way of making people feel comfortable and relaxed infant of the camera when it can be so awkward or hard at times.

I have so much experience with all different types of people, young and old, shy and outgoing, and I find that by the time we are done with every session there is a special connection that we’ve made because of the fluidity of the session and how comfortable I made them felt in front of the camera.

I think every individual deserves to feel special and see results that prove how unique and special they truly are. My goal is to make that happen by capturing moments that will last a lifetime.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I didn’t notice much of a decrease in business, if anything it picked up a bit more. Maybe because a lot more people were spending more time in their homes and realized they needed updated photos on the walls, or for some, professional photos were done for the first time.
