Life and Work with Talia Lavor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Talia Lavor.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My fascination with the human body and how it worked began at a young age, as I watched my father attend medical school, complete a grueling residency and build his surgical practice. I was intrigued by many subjects in life but none as deeply and consistently as medicine.

Initially, I saw myself as a physician but experienced firsthand some of the consequences of being the child of a doctor. And the universe must have known too. Through several years and many twists of fate, I graduated with a Masters of Medical Sciences as a Physician Assistant.

I knew, without a doubt, that I was destined to practice in Women’s Health. I was always blown away by the strength and tenacity of women, and loved the variety as well as the ability to establish and nurture long-term relationships with my patients.

My career as PA and how I practice has evolved immensely over the years. My desire to continually evolve, my personal experiences and the experiences of my patients and clients, and my obsession with learning have shaped who I am and what I do.

Over the years, I was drawn to a more functional approach to health and wellness. I felt unsatisfied with superficial questions and answers, and I wanted to dig deeper and investigate what was at the root of the problems of the women that I was working with.

This desire jumped to a new level when my husband and I began our struggle with infertility. It was ironic and painful to be a PA practicing in Women’s Health and to be unable to conceive a child of our own.

We went through tests and procedures and were ultimately told that we had a 1% chance of conceiving on our own. We were devastated. I felt like a failure. I felt broken. And for the first time in my life, I felt like there was nothing I could do about it.

And I kept thinking to myself, “If this is how I feel like a PA, with knowledge and resources at my fingertips, I can’t even imagine how my patients feel.”

I decided to channel my newfound approach to wellness with my thirst to always learn more and dig deeper into figuring out what could be at the root of our infertility.

After being diagnosed with a blocked right tube, PCOS, and hypothyroidism, after oral medications, injections that made me feel like a junkie, and 5 failed IUIs, my husband and I were able to conceive on our own.

Some people say that we beat the odds; I tell people we “Re-defined the odds.” That experience changed my life in more ways than the obvious of welcoming our first child, Stella. It made me realize that I wasn’t flourishing in the traditional medical model and practice and that modern medicine was failing so many of the people relying on it.

I knew most women and their doctors were starting at the wrong end, they were grasping at straws, and setting themselves up for failure. I knew I had to offer something different. A new approach that not only shifted the way we approach infertility, but that also allowed women to reconnect with their innate ability to conceive.

I decided to leave the traditional Women’s Health practice, and forge my own path. It’s not a typical situation for a Physician Assistant, but it suits me as I’m not the typical PA. In fact, if you asked me now, I’d describe myself as a maverick PA, fertility mentor and warrior. Yep, that’s a mic drop moment.

Over the past three years, besides raising Stella and welcoming our son, Henry, I have dedicated every minute of my time and every ounce of my being to developing a program and a system that gives the power to get and stay pregnant back to its rightful owners: women and their partners.

I have created an approach to fertility that is unique and customized to each and every couple. With clarity, focus and action, we are able to identify, reduce and remove fertility saboteurs, enabling women and their partners to radically improve fertility so that they can conceive on their own or improve fertility treatment success rates as well as foster a healthy pregnancy and birth.

I now work exclusively with women and their partners that have been struggling to conceive or maintain pregnancy: women that have been told that they may never become mothers or expand their families. I work with women that have a deep desire to conceive and a commitment to the transformation it takes to make that dream a reality.

Cliché as it may sound, every day I wake up excited knowing that I am living my purpose.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has been anything but smooth, but it has been extremely transformational. Any time that I find myself looking back as saying, “Man, I wish I knew that before,” or “why didn’t I do that sooner,” I’ve realized that it is all unfolding as it should. This process is teaching me how to trust myself and my intuition, how to take nothing personally and to understand that I will be judged but that the only opinion that matters is my own. I’ve learned that being on the leading edge, where you challenge widely accepted principals and practices, can be scary and lonely, but rewarding beyond words. I am learning to trust that the universe has my back, that everything is working out for me, and that I am the luckiest woman in the world to be able to do what I do. My advice is to create and hold on tight to your vision, to push through resistance like procrastination and perfectionism, and to embrace what makes you uniquely you.

Please tell us about your work.
I think I touched on this a bit in a previous question, but here are some more thoughts:

As a brand, I’m most proud of being bold and unconventional but also feminine and spiritual. Everything I do is based on this truth: Anything is possible, even the impossible.

I love witnessing the transformation that the women that I work with go through during our time together. It becomes about so much more than fertility. This experience and process are unlike any other in that we focus not only on physical growth and transformation but also subconscious reprogramming, meaning removing the unconscious programs, thoughts, habits, and beliefs that greatly impact our health, fertility and overall happiness.

I am known for helping the women that stump all other doctors. I love working with the women that get labeled as “complicated, complex or perplexing.” I refuse to accept the diagnosis of unexplained infertility. This diagnosis is simply a lack of creativity and a limited perspective. When women and their partners come to me, they feel defeated, powerless, overwhelmed, and confused. They feel lost and disconnected. My intention is to expand their awareness and reveal a host of possibility. Together, we open windows and doors that they never knew existed. It’s exhilarating and empowering.
