Life and Work with Shalala Beaty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shalala Beaty.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m originally from South Carolina. Growing up, I lived a very sheltered lifestyle. I knew I had a lot of goals I wanted to accomplish in my life without even knowing exactly what those goals were or how I’d reach them but the fact that I’ve always been a determined hardworking individual who wants to succeed let me know that I’d one day do some pretty amazing things. I married the love of my life at age 20 in 2013. My husband introduced me to the military lifestyle with him being active duty in the United States Army. We had some amazing experience, lived in awesome places, and met people who are considered family to this day. While being a military spouse was a wonderful experience and completely different from my pre-marital life, it sparked an interest in active duty military life for myself. I started to research different branches of the military and fell in love with the United States Air Force. It was just a thought in the beginning but quickly morphed into a plan. My husband was so supportive and pushed me to reach my goal. He supported my decision when no one else did.

After a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, I was able to enlist into the United States Air Force in 2017 and I’ve been excelling ever since. I had people who didn’t believe I could do it, people who thought I was too girly for the military, and people who simply wanted me to fail. Thanks to God and my husband, I was able to thrive and go against any negativity. Since joining the military, my husband and I have been able to move to the Phoenix area which we love, purchase a home, welcome our baby girl Karsyn into our family, and begin our bucket list traveling. I feel as a woman in today’s society, it’s important to not lose yourself in the midst of being a spouse or a mother. Women can have and do it all, I never want to limit myself to societies standards. Setting goals and exceeding them is vital in my growth process. I’ve accomplished some amazing things in my career so far such as winning awards and promotions that I’m extremely proud of. There’s so much ahead of me is that I’m still young in my career and I’m determined to set a positive example for other women and girls who have similar goals.

Everything that I do, of course, is for myself and my husband, but now I look at my daughter and the woman that I want her to become. I want her to be proud of me and to think if her mom could do, she can do it plus more. I want her to see that she can wear multiple hats and be good at each role and not be boxed into a one-dimensional version of herself. I want her to follow my example and be the happiest well-rounded person she can possibly be. With focus and determination, there’s nothing we can’t do.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road reaching my military goals. Before joining, I had physical challenges that at one point, I thought they were just too hard to overcome and I wanted to quit. Thankfully, I didn’t, I gave it my all and was able to overcome them.

To other young women, I’d say don’t give up on yourself. You owe it to yourself to be successful, happy and live a full life. When things get hard, stay focus and don’t lose sight of your goals.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m in the United States Air Force. My career field is Air Crew Flight Equipment on the F35 Airframe.

I’m also proud of the fact that we were recently able to start our YouTube channel, thanks to friends and family who gave us the push to do it. A lot of people always ask about our day to day lifestyle, so we’re excited to finally be producing content that can be viewed that shows our journey.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
My favorite apps would definitely have to be YouTube and Pinterest. I’m able to get some many ideas and inspiration from those two apps.
