Today we’d like to introduce you to Reshauna Striggles.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Reshauna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
About a year ago, I decided to quit my job and set sails toward my dreams! I traveled, I researched and I learned a great deal about myself to start. Once I settled down, a friend, La Monique Wade and I merged our Marketing and Public Relations skills to create a brand called Melanin Media. We saw an opportunity to create a brand that would shed light on positivity in our community while promoting small businesses and jumped at the chance! We’ve been putting in work since July 2018 and I have no regrets.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been the furthest thing from a smooth road. We went from starting here, in my living room to having a full squad working on location!
My partner and I were shocked at how quickly things moved. I personally was proud to see the support I have gotten from some of my friends and family along the way. It’s good to know that people are watching the blog and they will push with me during the hard times.
As far as advice for young women, I’d say:
Do not be intimidated to play ball with the boys. They will be surprised at what they can learn from observing and you will gain their respect.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Melanin Media – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
What I’m most proud of is how fast we have grown in such a short time. Our Media pages haven’t been up a year and we are making great numbers. My favorite part of the job has to be narrowing down segments for market analysis or learning about behavioral patterns and what consumers like to read or spend time on. I personally specialize in Press Training and Social Media Marketing. I love my career path, I’m proud to be helping others reach their goals and effectively communicate their ideas and projects.
As a team Melanin Media can provide:
Live Event Broadcasting + Online Press / Consumer + Business Features / Media Outreach/ Content Creation/ Press Collateral/ Brand Re-Positioning/ Brand Relaunches/ Brand Feature Stories
Influencer + Blogger Collaborations / Content Creation / Social Media Strategy / Community Management
Product Launches / Openings Event Publicity/ Sponsorship & Partnership Coordination/ Media Events /Casting
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
My advice for anyone starting out is to make sure you really build your support system strong, LEARN FROM EVERYONE. Especially as a young woman in the business force, because having mentors can get you the guidance you need to be successful. What worked well for me was treating mentorship like dating. Going out to lunch but leaving having learned a new trick useful for my business.
