Today we’d like to introduce you to Pinky Guerrero.
Pinky, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Thank you so much for having me, I truly appreciate it.. well, let’s start with…Hi, I’m Pinky! (Yes, it’s my real name) I was born premature, weighted 3.2, size of a Barbie Doll, and VERY pink! The NICU nurses originally gave me the nickname that my Parents decided to make part of my name legally. And, no pink isn’t my favorite color. ;] In 2008, I lost my Dad to cancer after 16 years of fighting. Six months after his death, I became unexpectedly pregnant at 19 and found myself suddenly homeless. Due to those events, I spontaneously dropped out of college, quit my jobs, skipped town, and went through a trying period where I questioned my Faith and eventually abandoned it. I went through numerous obstacles, of finding myself worthless, ashamed of who I was and the story that was unfolding before me.
Life felt uncontrollable. Many say not to veer off the path laid before you and that the road less traveled is a difficult one. Whoever said it wasn’t right, but they weren’t wrong. No journey is ever easy, whether you stay on the road or veer off. God showed me grace and saw something in me and blessed my broken road. So, after six months, I found my way back. I’m now a proud mom of three, married the boyfriend, a college graduate with a Master’s, CEO of a non-profit, and own my own marketing agency. And so, this is my story.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t ever believe any roads are smooth- my Dad dying of cancer after 16 years – Became pregnant and homeless at 19 years old – Dropped out of college – Financial strains -Young Motherhood/Young Wife. But, regardless of these challenges, I don’t regret it one bit.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have a non-profit (#GuerreroPartyof5): At 19 years old, we found out we were unexpectedly pregnant. Although unplanned, we both stepped up to the plate and were ready to take on the responsibilities as young parents. As I had mentioned our journey had many obstacles from financial strain, homelessness, and constantly moving from place to place. Although we took the road less traveled, we vowed that once we could get on our own two feet, we would share our story. It was because of others’ kindness that we were able to get to where we are today. It’s because someone showed kindness to us, we are returning it to others by paying it forward, giving back to our community tenfold. A 501(C) 3 non-profit was created due to the positive impact of kindness. We want to help promote Philanthropy, Charity & Voluntarism. We want to spread awareness on the efforts of the amazing non-profits helping those in various situations. Our goal is to inspire, empower, and motivate through action and testimonials from individuals impacted by the grace and kindness of others to guide new volunteers (Individuals of ALL ages) and potential donors to learn more about how to get involved in their community and to learn about the non-profit organizations in their community. It’s because kindness was shown to us that we want to pay it forward. *I also have my own marketing agency (Mark-It-Pink): My goal and purpose in “Mark-It-Pink” is to provide you a simple yet effective marketing service and offer straight forward strategies that will communicate your mission in order to attract and engage your audience, as well as provide opportunities for your audience to get to know who you are and the brand/business. What set’s me apart is my journey and the WHY behind both of these platforms. Stems from my struggles and finding oneself and finding my life purpose. I am most proud of accomplishing so much even after falling pregnant at 19. Many doubted me and thought the worst of my future.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
As cliché as it sounds, my Family – my Husband (Ric), my son’s (Skyler) and (Spencer) and Daughter (Katelynn). They’re the reason I am where I am today. I do not regret the journey that I’ve gone through, and I do not regret ever being a Young Mom. It made me stronger, wiser, and more confident in myself more than before. The reason I am successful in any aspect of my life is that I have three little ones watching. There are zero excuses to say “I can’t,” especially when my Husband and I proved that you definitely can.
