Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Islas.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Natalie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I became a hairdresser because it was always in my blood, I knew this because I hear stories of cutting or styling or chopping off my Barbie’s hair as a young child. I was also inspired by my grandmother who she herself was a hairstylist, I’d always watch her work from home as a young girl. I found it very intriguing how my grandmother was always able to transform your identity by either a simple haircut or color. As I got older, around my early teens, I went into my grandmothers color cabinet and colored my hair from dirty blonde to a black cherry. I did this entirely without telling any of my family members. Ever since that day, I’ve been hooked with hair coloring, cutting, and styling. It was always fun to me how transforming your hair would always play with your identity, or simply the way you feel about yourself. This is where my love of hairdressing began,
Has it been a smooth road?
I used to be really shy when It came to meeting complete strangers and striking a conversation. When I acquired my cosmetology license, this forced me out of my shell entirely. It took me several years to acquire the point of confidence in myself with my skills and striking conversation in my beauty career. Over those several years, the road was actually a really bumpy ride, not smooth at all. Over those years, I did learn a lot about myself… hairdressing had enabled me to unlock and discover parts of who I am, what I’m truly passionate about, and what I want out of life. I discovered I just needed to simply believe in myself. I started to see my skills advance over the years, due to dedication to keeping up with the latest trends. I started to see that I truly want to impact this world by making people feel good about themselves, and now that I have stepped out of my shell through all the persevering I couldn’t be any happier. The advice I would give to other woman or particular young woman… if you are ever struggling to believe in your self, simply fight that voice in your mind that tells you-you can’t do achieve a goal. It is a beautiful thing when you have a beautiful skill and a deep passion for something. As long as you believe in yourself, you will make all your dreams come true. You will blow yourself away, and that confidence will shine so beautifully like never before.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with @natcutshair Instagram Business Platform – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am passionate about hair extensions in this industry because they both join both skills in hair cutting and hair coloring. On a regular basis, on a typical day in the shop, I am cutting as much as I am coloring, if I am not doing that, then I’m doing hair extensions. The one thing I’m most proud of as a service provider is that I love to take my time with clients, I left a busy salon and spa in my hometown of 9 years in Queen Creek, AZ (where I have acquired all my beauty experience). I took my career to the next level and now I work independently in a salon studio in the foothills of Ahwatukee. Making this bold move had enabled me to truly take the time I needed to attentively listen to my clients and customize each consultation to my client’s wishes and desires. I feel like that the customized time I spend with my clients sets me apart from others, in most salons you are given set time frames and expectations for every client. For example, if a client has lots of questions or wants to comfortably walk through the service or needs extra time due to how much hair they have, I always set the time I need with my clients, without charging an arm and a leg (pricing is equal to competitor salons)… while still giving my clients top notch service and truly making them feel listened to.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I always used to play with fake money and pretended I ran my own business as a kid and I had so much fun with it. I loved to do my friends and family hair and makeup, and see there reactions and smiles. My family like any other would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always experimented with my dreams as a little girl. I loved the arts and the beauty of hairdressing. I was an entrepreneur from the start now that I look back on my childhood. No wonder why it feels so rewarding to go to work every day, I feel fortunate to be living what I have always dreamed of. To be the entrepreneur I was truly made to be and run my own independent salon business in a studio one day. So that, I can run my own independent business dynamic, the way I always dreamed of. This all would not have been possible without my parents co-signing my beauty school loan that set the foundation for all the skills I have acquired to this day. I am thankful for my parents for setting me up for success, They both supported my dreams and believed in me that I could achieve this dream as well as “financially”.
