Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Robertson, owner of Mimi Von Lace Beauty.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well, I started on my journey as a makeup artist about 17 years ago. I began in the theatre world in high school, I remember creating different characters for the many stage plays that I acted and aided in. One year, I received my first makeup book by Kevyn Aucoin called “Making Faces.” I remember reading it and going through the pictures thinking to myself, “ this is precisely what I want to do for the rest of my life.” “Make Faces.” That book and many more after, started the creation of the makeup artist I was to become. Throughout my years as a makeup artist, I’ve done runway, film, TV, photography, bridal, special occasion, special fx, fantasy and almost anything that has to do with creating “a look.” My work has been published in Vedere, Essere, Italian Vogue, And Jet magazine to name a few.
As I progressed as a makeup artist, I then saw the need to further my education and dive a bit deeper into the skin. In 2014, I became a licensed esthetician, in which I gained a whole other passion. I finally felt as if I became the healer, that I was meant to be. Treating skin became just as important and exciting as “Making Faces.” So, with my love and passion for both Makeup and Skincare, Mimi Von Lace Beauty was created.
Has it been a smooth road?
Well, at age 20, I became a young mother. While becoming a mother was definitely the most selfless job I’ve ever had, juggling my passion with my family has had some bumps in the road. I’ve definitely had to turn down a few awesome opportunities in this industry. It hasn’t been the easiest but definitely very rewarding.
My advice for young artists would be to keep at it. Keep pushing. If you love it, you work it and you never give up. Be open to learning new tricks from fellow artists. Always be open to growth.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
So, as a licensed esthetician and makeup artist, I specialize in healing skin treatments and “goddess glam.”
I treat all types of skin disorders, specializing in acne and anti-aging. I do everything from standard treatment facials, to chemical peels and microdermabrasion.
I am known for my “treat and beat” and “goddess glam” which consists of a mini facial followed by whatever my client’s beautiful mind can think up.
My goal is for every woman whom I have the pleasure of touching, to feel like a goddess and to leave feeling somewhat healed, whether mentally or physically in the end.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I love to read! Over the years I’ve read all of the Kevyn Aucoin books, Bobby brown books and lots of self-help books, such as How to talk to people by Leil Lowndes. Think and grow rich, Rich dad poor Dad and so many more.
