Life and Work with Melissa Marusteri

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Marusteri.

Melissa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had the natural ability to encourage people and help seek confidence in themselves. I wanted to find a career that created that goal each day. That’s what led me to begin a journey in the field of hair. I graduated from the Brown Aveda Institute in Ohio, in 2003. I saw a bigger picture and a year later decided to bring my passion to Phoenix, Arizona.

I worked in many different environments such as, high-end salons and resorts. I had the opportunity to learn various techniques, discovered what I liked and I didn’t like. One goal remained the same; the ability to transform my clients into feeling confident about themselves.

In 2014, I decided to take the leap in opening my own salon suite. This decision was better suited for my own lifestyle, being that I have an autoimmune condition.

In my early 20’s, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition and I became interested in holistic health and alternative methods to healing from the inside out.

I wanted the main focus of my salon to be for transformation of wellness and beauty.

In 2014, I graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, with a certification in holistic health coaching.

These experiences have helped me drive my business and shape it to be about encouraging my clients to be the best version of themselves. I was more than thrilled to open The Green Spot, and to have a place where I can invest all my passions and goals, also, to have my clients feel confident about having non-toxic products used on them and to create an environment of encouragement and empowerment.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Owning a business is truly a trial by fire. My daily obstacles considering I struggle with my health and not allowing it to limit me; to allow those trials to fuel my fire and reinventing myself by being my own product of transformation.

As they say “diamonds are made under pressure” and as a business owner, there’s no way around the pressure and time under tension.

I’m constantly evolving and changing, but staying authentic and true to myself and my goals.

I’ve given permission to challenge and reinvent myself, which has been the most rewarding part of growing my business.

The best advice I would give to young women starting out on their journey would be tap into the power of believing in yourself. Don’t limit yourself and change old mindsets.

Please tell us about The Green Spot, a health-minded hair salon.
My ultimate goal for The Green Spot was to create a health-minded space that’s authentic to what I stand for. I wanted to find the best, non-toxic and natural products to create that high end experience for my clients.

From start to finish my clients are offered products and services that will enhance their beauty in just a few hours.

The Green Spot is dedicated to offer both natural, organic products and hair color infused with organic oils (free of ammonia and PPD).

I also offer a unique hair service called Natural Beaded Rows. NBR are the most natural looking hair extensions as well as the least damaging method I’ve found. The fact that I can transform a woman’s confidence in just a few hours is the most rewarding for me. It is the most exciting feature of The Green Spot. I enjoy being a natural hair salon and I bring expertise along with my products. I’m constantly educating myself to have as much knowledge as I can to give my clients the absolute best.

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Give yourself permission to make mistakes. Learn from them and strive to be the best version of you. Don’t strive for perfection. Just be authentic and the success will follow.
