Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorena Cruz.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Ever since I was in high school, I knew that the cosmetology world was mine. I thought I wanted to go to school for hair but little did I know, I would fall in with the art of nails. I received my nail tech license at the age of 22. I soon started my business at a salon studio and after a couple of years, I decided I was too comfortable and decided u needed a change. I reached out to a salon named Public Image located in the heart of Phoenix. I can honestly say it was the best decision I had ever made because there, I had met amazing people that became friends and also gave me a chance to expand my network circle. Shortly after, I moved to a well-known nail shop called named Stash House.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve had many obstacles in my road, some of which I thought I would never overcome. I lost my mom at the age of 21, and that was the hardest thing I’ve ever been through, no problem or obstacle can compare to that, but knowing that she was watching over me made me push harder to make her proud. With the love, support, and advice from family and also from clients, I never felt alone and It made me confident in my journey.

Women that sit in my chair come from different types of backgrounds. When they come to see me they expect the best of me and that is exactly what I aim to do. I use the best products and try to give the best customer service I can offer. I specialize in nail art and Swarovski crystals. The best feeling is to see my clients get a boost of self-confidence after they see the finished product. I would like to think they feel unstoppable, cause that’s what they are!

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
My best advice to anyone trying to succeed on their own is to trust your timing, work hard, be humble and grateful and push self-discipline on your self. It is amazing being your own boss but it’s also very easy to get comfortable, being self-employed is a 24/7 type of hustle.
