Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Marshman.

Lisa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I first saw Chalk Couture when my friend was sharing on Facebook some really cute pictures she made using the products. A few months later, I finally went over to check it out. Fast forward a year later… I’ve moved up the ranks in the company! I went from designer, qualified designer, leading designer to master designer. I will achieve mentor this month! The company has so much training and an amazing compensation plan.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Everyone has their own struggles. Sometimes, I wonder what I’m doing. Is this really for me? Yes, it is. I remember how much I love using our products and watching people’s faces when they peel up that first stencil after chalking it, priceless. My advice is to start at your own pace and go from there. Walk, jog, run or sprint, it’s your choice. Also, never give up. Ever. Ask all the A-list celebrities where they would be if they had given up.

Chalk Couture launched July 1, 2017 and is part of a multi-billion dollar hobbies and crafting industry. We have such a diverse group of men and women, from the hobbyists to the top earners, there is something for everyone. We are known for our vinyl stencils that have such amazing detail. Chalkpaste and ink are what bring the project to life. We also carry surfaces, for example, chalkboards. We also have all the tools you need like different size squeegees. As a designer, you own the copyright. Chalk Couture is growing fast and just expanded into Canada in May. It’s just the beginning. If you’re looking for something fun to try, this is it!

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
The biggest barrier I see is women are afraid to post on social media in fear of being judged, put down, laughed at or all of the above. Don’t let anyone make you lose your sparkle. Show them you’re better than any negative comment. Don’t try to be someone else, just be you.
