Life and Work with Karen Esparza

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Esparza.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nick. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started Cosmetology School while still in high school, so by the time I graduated, I did so with both. It was extremely stressful yet very rewarding. I have loved doing hair since I was a little girl. Makeup was my second love, yet when I found it I couldn’t learn everything quick enough. I love what I do and I honestly would not trade it for the world. I work mainly with special events such as Quinceañeras and brides, I love taking before and after a because I love seeing their reactions! It’s always a rewarding feeling giving someone that boost of confidence that they often need on their special day. My goal is to open a beauty salon and also to be able to work with campaigns to create art.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing that is worth fighting for is easy. If it were everyone would do it. Juggling two schools was complicated and stressful especially for a 16-year-old. Now, that I look back, I pride myself and my parents for always having my back and helping me through difficult times. If it weren’t for them I wouldn’t be where I am today. The advice I give very often that might seem cliche is to never give up on your dream, no matter how hard it gets at times. Nothing is as rewarding as accomplishing a long-term goal. The road will always be bumpy but if you have a strong support system and if you believe in yourself the sky is the limit.

I am a licensed cosmetologist, therefore, I know how to do anything from color to haircuts. I specialize in hair and makeup because I love the transformations, my client reactions when they see themselves for the first time it’s thrilling. I am most proud of how far I have come and all that I have learned. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for me. My personality sets me apart from others, I am very easy going and I believe it’s needed when working under constant pressure.

Who have you been inspired by?
My mother has inspired me to be the women I am today. She is strong and intelligent she has thought me that with hard work and dedication anything is possible. She came to the U.S with very little and in her time here, she has grown into a businesswoman. My parents are proud owners of a business that is growing. Determination is key and she has thought me that. I aspire to be half the women she is someday.
