Today we’d like to introduce you to Julianna Pek.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Julianna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Grew up in Cleveland, Ohio; first-generation Hungarian. Speak, read and write the language; B.A. from Baldwin-Wallace University.
Lived in Washington, DC, St. Louis, MO, Louisville, KY and now in Phoenix. Career changes and a curiosity were the reasons for my husband and I to move, every 7 to 10 years.
I had a number of interesting jobs: federal government, technology, non-profit sports organization, and now real estate. For a time, I even had my own office organizing business.
Relocating and starting in new places was not hard for us. We adapt to change very quickly and have many interests that help us to meet new people and get involved with the local community.
Had a very successful career as Executive Director for the US Tennis Association, and about 5 years ago decided to make the change to real estate. Having a little more flexibility and the opportunity to meet and help people, like Reka Nagy, is something that energizes me.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There was a lot of uncertainty at times because of our moves/relocation.
Making moves and starting all over can be overwhelming.
So, some advice for other young women — especially in this generation’s time, career changes will be the norm:
Be open to new opportunities.
The path you are on now, may not be the path you stay on.
If you know where you want to go that’s great. But if you don’t (like me), that’s okay too.
It’s okay to change direction.
Please tell us about Julie Pek, Realtor.
I’m a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. I help people buy, sell and invest in real estate. My specialty is providing excellent customer service (being there for my client every step of the way). I also incorporate a bit of FUN! This helps take some of the stress away. I’ve started to give my clients a personalized poem, that recaps our real estate adventure together. I enjoy using words and poetry and have become our office’s “resident poet” as I quite often write about my fellow agents for whatever occasion.
Here’s what I use in my marketing:
When you’re ready to sell or buy,
go ahead and give me a try.
Representing you in any season,
I’ll negotiate deals, all within reason.
So, pick up the phone and give me a call,
Text or email, I respond to all.
We’ll have FUN when it’s all said and done!
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Mentors are a great source, however, I haven’t used any. Our office provides a Manager who gives us technical advice and I’ve consulted with them many times. So, having someone with technical/industry knowledge is great.
Networking is an even better way to get ideas, advice, and general support. It’s worked well for me. I’ve been able to get referrals from people I’ve networked with.
Find people that are successful, and find areas that you are interested in. I started to get involved with the local Hungarian cultural association, and that’s how I became friends with Reka. I can practice my language skills, meet new people and help them in real estate transactions.
I am also active in tennis and have made many friends over the years that have resulted in great referrals.
I’ve also recently joined forces with fellow agents who work in Moon Valley (where I also live). Pooling our marketing efforts are helping my business.
