Today we’d like to introduce you to Dorie Morales.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was in the multi-family apartment magazine industry. My former business partner approached me with a Green Living magazine business opportunity. I entered into the Green Living AZ magazine as a business opportunity. It was not long after, I went back to my roots. My dad loved gardening. When we lived in New Jersey, he had a large garden filled with fresh fruits and vegetables. I cherished the change of seasons and the fall leaves. We moved to Arizona when I was 7. I enjoyed horse back riding, art and being outdoors.
When I was in high school, I was blessed to be a foreign exchange student in Espelette, France which is in Basque region of France. I put on the application rural instead of metropolitan. My girlfriend was drinking wine and boating in Bordeaux. It was the best mistake that I ever made. I was milking goats and cows on a farm. I loved the beauty of the region. I experienced the birth of a baby cow. I had a whole new appreciation of nature and the earth. I am very passionate about an eco-conscious lifestyle, health, and sustainability. One of the reasons is I have lost all of my immediate family members to cancer, dementia, and medications going toxic in their body. It is my mission to teach everyone that there are simple solutions that they can do in their daily life to create change and make an impact. Green Living AZ magazine is my purpose.
This experience made Green Living AZ magazine my purpose.
Has it been a smooth road?
The year that we started Green Living magazine was 2010. It was not a good financial year. Sustainability was not as mainstream as it is today. Arizona is a conservative state. This was a tough year. I have said if I can make it through 2010, I can make it through anything. I feel that young women need to be true to themselves. They need to follow their heart. They should dream big and act on their dreams.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Green Living Magazine – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Green Living AZ magazine is an eco-conscious lifestyle magazine that is centered around how you live, work and play. Our vision is to leave the world a better place for future generations. We host eco events on a monthly basis to bring together city officials, CEO’s, upper management, non-profits, community innovators, our partners and our readers. I am the Publisher and Editor in Chief of the magazine. I lead my team to be their true selves and motivate them to share about what green living means to them. I am the proudest when the people connect with me and my team. They call, write an email to share what they learned from our articles and advertisers or they learned new things from attending one of our events. We are the only eco-conscious lifestyle magazine in Arizona.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
My father was a role model. He was a CEO that traveled the world. He had great business relationships and teammates at the company. He was an entrepreneur. After he left corporate America, he started a consulting firm, partnered in a jewelry store, automobile body shop. He was President of a computer distribution company. He was the General manager for a machine company that makes the machines that print on pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals and confections. My father loved to work. He was a great father. He loved to cook and spend time with his family. He showed me to follow your dreams and reach for the stars.
