Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Rufenacht.
Danielle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Once finding my passion within the film and photography world, I knew I could master it. But it wasn’t until challenges had arisen did I then understand just how hard I had to work. I faced what many had warned me about, sexism. I didn’t want to believe it but I had to work harder than any other collegee. However, I was raised to fight for what I want and to know that nothing is given to you. I had to earn it and even till this day, I’m not afraid to stand firm in what I love and to prove that I can be just as good if not better than any man in this industry.
Has it been a smooth road?
I believe you should play the game better than your competitors ever could.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a travel photographer looking to expand my skills to an art curator. I would love to travel the world studying culture within art and using photos as my way to study and document. I’m very proud of how far I have come on my own, I was not fortunate enough to have the help that many of my friends got in college. Currently, as I work to grow my education and my company, I work for List Logix, a real estate photography company where I have been able to focus on the practice of editing skills for photos, videos and more. While I push for my dream future, I also hope to set a living role model for my daughter and to provide her with everything that I didn’t have.
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Finding a mentor or even networking can be one of the hardest things to do, at least, I struggled greatly to find that help. I still can’t say that I have found a mentor but when it came to networking I did a lot of research. Understanding the basic of marketing could be key in any growing or inspiring individual who is looking to go off on there own. Time changes so although social networking was my key working tool in my networking I would say research what current networking tools are at large at the moment you are ready to grow.
