Life and Work with Dafine Fernandez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dafine Fernandez.

Dafine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started here at Emmi D SaonSpa about one month ago. I used to work in the Scottsdale Quarter at Dolce’ before they were permanently closed. The experience of Dolce’ closing really was a blessing in disguise. That experience alone tremendously affected the kind of aesthetician I have become, but the knowledge I obtained from the education given helped to mold and create what I am today. I am now in a place of complete happiness with my work environment experience and the owners are especially great! During the past five months, I have learned a lot about myself. What I will accept in my career life and what I will not have been a huge part of my growing and really being aware of what is ok, for me. I mean, we spend a large part of our everyday lives at work, lol I don’t know about you all but my butt WILL be happy! I actually began a career change in 2011. I went from assisting an oral surgeon to school for nursing! Being a solo parent, to be honest, became a lot to carry. Two jobs, school full time, next thing I know my kids are bigger and I’m over here like, where the hell did time go? Sooo, needless to say, I went as far as my associates and I am proud for making it that far. I bounced around different trade school ideas, my frame of thought was, how can I be successful, happy of and not miss out on my kiddos? Sooo, here I am! I wouldn’t do it any other way I have learned how strong I can be and what I am truly capable of, I live with no regrets and no fear!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been a smooth road to be where I am today. Besides the decision struggles regarding, what the hell am I going to do with my life? How am I going to provide for these four humans? Lol, there have been many personal life struggles as well. From relationships with friends and family, my relationships with my children navigating financials, deciding which bill can wait, should we continue eating these beans or go a week without electricity? All the while thinking, you know, I may never own a home, but I do own a truck? Maybe that could work? I had major surgery last year, that was eye-opening. Not knowing why this body was betraying me was a rollercoaster ride, and not one I will willingly ride again! Haha!

If I could give a woman some sound advice about life… I wouldn’t really know what to say exactly, not knowing what someone is going through it’s harder to advise. What I can say is, life is precious, so are your children, they are only small for a brief moment in time and then they are all grown up. Life gets so very hectic, sometimes you don’t know which way is up, as long as you compartmentalize each part of your life, create traditions with your children, and snatch one day a week with them and you only, you will feel so very fulfilled. Things change in a heartbeat, those little creations are YOUR heartbeat, nurture that pulse, because Resuscitation in your children regarding the relationships that you have cultivated with each child, how they feel about you, how they see you, you can’t always come back from not being there, no amount of money in the whole world is worth those memories… not one penny. Be sure whatever you do is the right fit for you and your children. Be aware of takers, there are so many who will try to rob you of your peace, do not let them take your peace. Just be happy, choose to smile, I promise, the kids, the smiles, bring happiness and no regrets. ❣️ When you’re happy, all of life will just flow. You will have no blockages in your path of existing. The universe will give and give, and continue to give… when you’re happy, there is nothing you can’t have. It’s a true story, try it.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am an Aesthetician. Not many people know what an Aesthetician does so I’d be happy to brief you on it. I take care of all your aesthetic needs. I work with various skin care lines regarding acne, hyperpigmentation, anti-aging hydration. I do full body waxing. I am able to do lash extensions, I do lash lifts and lash tints. I love love to see a change in a clients skin. Any issue they bring to me I can make the change they desire to have. I have a few preferred skin care lines to create these changes that are desired by my clients as well as my fave modalities to use during treatments to give the session that oomph everybody’s looking for! I love the results I get from needling, whether it be nano needling or micro needling serums into the skin, the results are amazing!

Microdermabrasion or derma planning before a peel is pretty sweet. Sculplla is so dreamy if you don’t like fillers! I sometimes feel like a bruja with my skin potions and lotions haha. I am most proud of the fact that I do really change lives. People are so grateful when you get rid of their acne scars, or a giant brown spot from sun damage. They walk a little taller and smile a little wider. It feels absolutely amazing knowing I made a difference in that person’s life. People see me before weddings, before interviews. It is very gratifying. I believe what sets me apart from others is my honesty. I am not afraid to speak the truth. When it comes to seeing a change, and truly helping someone, you have to be honest and not just give them the run around to make a buck. I have witnessed that, and it’s a shame. I’m not saying there aren’t steps, but there can be a more direct route to the end goal.

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
Women are stronger minded than men. Our backs can carry a bigger fuller heavier load than men. We can create absolutely anything and any situation we want to be in. We are more thought-provoking by nature, therefore better leaders. We are natural creators innovators and healers. We win. Do not for one second ever let a single human try to inhibit your future and your desires. Man or woman. What one projects upon you is that of there own personal struggle. I say you can have whatever you want. Nothing is out of reach. And always remember it’s bumpy, and sometimes, out of control, so wear your seatbelt! The opportunities are endless. What’s in your heart? Be silent and you will find it and you will do it. Anything is possible.
