Life and Work with Christin Wuestenhoefer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christin Wuestenhoefer.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Christin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been a licensed cosmetologist for 34 years. I started off in California where I worked for 15 years. I worked at 2 different salons and then owned my own. After having children and my husband getting a job with Southwest Airlines, we decided to move to Arizona. I took 6 years off to stay home with my children. It was awesome.

My sister moved to Arizona with her baby and I started taking care of her. My sister was a manager at Home Depot and was working 13 hour days plus a 2-hour commute. My sweet niece started to refer to me as Mom. I loved that and her, however, I knew it wasn’t good. I told my sister to quit and go to Aesthetician school and if she did, I would open a salon. To my surprise, she did just that and so A Wild Hair begins. We opened our salon with 2 stylists and 2 Aestheticians. We did well there but I wanted a better location. So, I saved and moved into the Fry”s shopping center in Anthem. We love our new location.

I have a passion for training new stylist. I also have a definite idea about the atmosphere in my business. We are a Seven Haircare Partner Salon and a Loreal Elite Salon. We have also partnered with Rhonda Allison Skincare. We are a commission based business. What this means is that we all work together as a team. My sister Cindy and I have created a place where Stylist are comfortable learning and clients feel like family. We have built a great business from the ground up with 6 stylist and and an Aesthetcian. One of our stylist is my daughter, who grew up in the industry and is an amazing stylist. Since education is so important to me, I make sure my team receives advanced education all year. Even traveling to the Seven Head quarters for Training in Seattle, Washington. We also bring educators to our location. I love the industry and want to grow my business and continue to provide a safe place for new stylists. I know some salons are apprehensive about hiring stylist right out of school but I love it. I want to pass on my knowledge and love for the industry to the next generation. They give me a fresh perspective and motivation. Who knows maybe one day my niece will join us.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not always, we struggled with our procedures and our model. With the help of Seven Haircare, we have clear procedures and a great model. Finally, a company that wants their partners to succeed not just sell their product. They do go hand in hand, a successful salon sells more products. My advice to anyone who tries to start a business is to stay as debt free as is possible.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with A Wild Hair Salon & Day Spa – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
At A Wild Hair Salon & Day Spa, we color cut all types of hair. We are highly trained in ombre, balayage, highlights, and blending. We do spa pedicures and manicures. We have makeup artists, a brow bar and an expert in lash extensions. We also have facials, derma planing, microdermabrasion, micro needling, oxygen treatments and all waxing services. We also welcome men and children. I personally love short haircuts and barber style cuts. I think what sets us apart is that we have a professional that we can hand pick for your particular service based on their specialty. I have worked hard to cultivate an atmosphere in the salon where someone from any walk of life could come in and feel welcome and comfortable.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
In my childhood, I raised and showed animals at the county fair. I had my own flock of sheep and a barn full of rabbits. I breed them and sold them. Raising these animals taught me how to take care of things and be responsible. Being in 4-H and FFA we had to keep good records on how much they cost and how much profit we made. It was my first small business. I also learned to think of someone else besides my self. I definitely have a competitive side and this gave me a constructive way to use it. I won many ribbons and trophies over the years which built my confidence.
