Life & Work with Christian and Lindsey Rushing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian and Lindsey Rushing

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Peerless Plumbing Company was founded in 1985, and ran by Randy Rushing and his brother Barry, until Barry passed away. Randy’s son, Christian, joined Peerless in 2004 after completing his service in the United States Coast Guard. Christian soon became Randy’s right hand man, and managed many of the plumbing projects. In 2010, Randy and Christian knew there was an easier way to fix sewer lines in homes, and they became the first NuFlow NuDrain installer in Arizona. Since then, trenchless sewer repair has been the meat and potatoes of Peerless Plumbing Company. Providing an easier, cleaner, way to repair broken sewer lines, was definitely the way to go. In 2018, Randy began the transition to retirement, and taught his son and daughter in-law everything there was to know about running Peerless. He wanted it to stay a family owned business, because family is everything. Which brings us today. We have been managing Peerless Plumbing Company since 2019. What started with a single crew of two, has turned into two crews of four. Christian took over the outside relationships with customers, while Lindsey took over the inside of the business. Together, they have maintained the Peerless way… family first. To many businesses, a customer is just that, a customer. To Peerless, our customers are our family. They invite us into their homes and they place their trust in us. Because of that, they are treated like family, with fairness and honesty.

Today, Peerless Plumbing is a known name around the Valley. People know us for our friendliness, helpfulness, and darn good work. We take pride in our reputation, and word of mouth is our primary source of advertising. The definition of peerless is “unequaled; unrivaled. synonyms: incomparable, matchless, unrivaled, inimitable, beyond compare/comparison, unparalleled, unequaled, without equal, second to none, unsurpassed, unsurpassable, nonpareil”. And we aim to be just that, Peerless.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every road has its bumps and detours. It may not be the path you laid out, but it teaches you. In the two years that we have been running the business, there have been some obstacles. Especially in 2020, when the Covid-19 virus took over the world. There was so much uncertainty. With jobs being lost, and homes being lost, we had no choice but to make sure our family of employees was going to be taken care of. Sure, we needed new equipment, some updates to things, but we had to be sure that the employees we had at the time would be able to take home a paycheck each week. Even through the pandemic, we were able to grow, and add three new crew members. This past year (2020) taught us so much as business owners. It taught us that no one is going to bail you out and that you have to take care of those who take care of you.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Peerless Plumbing Company specializes in all things sewer and drain. We really found our niche in 2010 when we became NuDrain installers. NuDrain is a trenchless technology that allows us to repair your sewer line without digging up your home or business. It’s not liked a soft coating that can fill small cracks, but it’s a structural liner, essentially a new pipe within the existing pipe. There is little disruption to the interior or exterior of your home or business, and what used to take weeks to do, we can do in a few days, and you get to stay in your home! What sets us apart from others is our integrity. We want to do what is right for our customers. We will never try to sell them something they don’t need, and we will give you an honest answer, even if it means we don’t get the job. We are most proud of our employees. They are what makes us truly great. They work hard every day, even in the dead of summer. We believe that if you take care of your employees, they will take care of you, and we can honestly say, that our employees are some of the best. Our employees are always wanting to learn new technology, and how to make the work better and easier. They have come up with some pretty great ideas, and we are always encouraging them. Not sure if any of my employees will get the opportunity to read this, but just in case, you guys are simply AMAZING.

What does success mean to you?
Success is knowing there is a finish line, and getting up each and every time you fall, just to get there. Sure, we’ve had a few mishaps, but every company has. Dwelling on those mishaps slows us down. It slows my crew down, and it slows our momentum. Success is taking those mishaps, learning from them, and moving on, while still aiming for the finish line. Success is also giving back what you have been given. We were fortunate in 2020 to be able to grow. Even before the pandemic, we were always looking at ways to give back to the community. As a small business, we may not have much to contribute monetary wise, but a little bit by a lot, goes a long way. In 2019, we sponsored 19 dogs at the Arizona Animal Welfare League. We called and wanted to sponsor the dogs that were there the longest, so they could have homes for Christmas. In 2020, we let our customers decide. We picked 4 charities, Arizona Animal Welfare League, The Gary Sinise Foundation, St. Vincent de Paul, and The Cancer Research Institute. We gave our customers the opportunity to choose where their portion would go. It felt amazing to be able to give back.
