Life and Work with Casi Stauffer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casi Stauffer.

Casi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been doing hair for ten years! I started doing hair because I LOVED getting my hair done. It always made me feel so good right after I got a new fun style. I started cosmetology school not knowing what it would really be like. I know that was a really great decision for the benefit of the rest of my life! I’m married with two fun kids and doing hair allows me to have a very mom-friendly schedule as well as a creative and productive outlet when I am away from my home.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth road? I wouldn’t t day It has been a smooth road. I don’t think anyone really knows what a smooth road is career-wise. If you’re just starting your journey, I want to tell you to be your own inspiration. Too often, we look to people who have already “made it.” This sometimes can be discouraging if you’re still climbing the mountain. I would definitely say stay inspired and ambitious. No one is going to hand it to you. Go and work for it. I do think to have people that are good mentors is helpful too. But again, my main advice is to be your own inspiration. Then, no one else is in control of your success.

Please tell us about Hotsaucehair.
People always ask what my favorite part of doing hair is and I struggle with answering it. Because I like it all. I LOVE the new balayage trends. I love keeping my blondes ahead of the game when it comes to fresh looks. I recently just became obsessed with cutting short hair. Being ten years into doing hair, I wanted to avoid a ‘burnout’. I shifted to cutting a lot of short haircuts because they are challenging. People who can do short hair consistently well have the most loyal clients in my opinion. This past year, I started an Instagram competition called Battle of the Bobs. We had over 850 entries! It was so fun being a judge for that contest and I hope to do that every year!

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Make sure your ego matches your skills. I see too many people wanting to jump ahead and worry about the wrong things. Get your education. Practice practice practice. Stay humble and share what you’ve learned.
