Life and Work with Breanna Rose Skoon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Breanna Rose Skoon.

Breanna Rose, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started the label in January 2013. I started designing accessories after attending the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM). While planning my own wedding, I wanted to do something special so I decided to make all of my bridesmaids jewelry, including my own. Soon after earning my first degree, I was then inspired to create my first clothing collection. From there Lousy Rich was born.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road is long and winding with many bumps but passion always perseveres. I started from the ground up with a love for design. As a very young girl, I remember cutting my grandmothers bed-sheets into dresses and stapling the layers together… fashion has been a part of me from the beginning. Fully realizing my dreams and turning my passion into a career has been tough from the start but I take each obstacle as it comes and I continue to educate myself in this ever-advancing technological age. Take for instance this year, I will be graduating from ASU in Spring with a focus in Business Marketing. Also, I received an associate of applied science degree from Phoenix college in 2017 to continue to grow and thrive in the retail industry. My advice for other women, particularly young is to believe in yourself and always be the hardest working one in your field.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am CEO and Designer or Lousy Rich. We offer Clothing and jewelry with cosmetics coming soon. Lousy Rich promotes an elevated edge design aesthetic. The label blends the downtowns girl, with the uptown lady to create a modern and edgy-chic woman. I try to transcend women’s style by designing new and innovative fashions, conceptualizing the cool girl that everyone wants to be. The brand aims to deliver an upscale garment or accessory with a modern price tag. I pull inspirations from my personal life journey and daily experiences. Each piece is fun and flirty, mixed with a little dash of me in it! We are unique in that we make women look and feel like a million bucks without having to spend it. I have received many awards in my field and enjoyed designing a ready-to-wear collection for Phoenix Fashion Week but I am most proud to be active in local and national charities, giving back a percentage of sales each year.

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
The single most important advice I can give to a young woman just starting her career is to “just breath”, take a deep breath when things seem manic or overwhelming and just keep believing in themselves. This sage advice was passed to me by a mentor of mine and is sound advice. Women have more opportunities than ever before and I would tell them to be proud of their accomplishments and keep reaching for the stars.
