Life and Work with Bekah Tinter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bekah Tinter.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Bekah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
A little over seven years ago, I was a stay-at-home mom of three boys ages 3, 2 and 2 months old. I was not interested in going back to the classroom as an elementary teacher. At that point, I was looking for a way to stay home with my family and do something that was both flexible and profitable. My friend introduced me to health coaching and I began my health journey in January of 2011. I was able to lose the baby weight and gain back energy with a comprehensive health plan instead of just through exercise. This plan offered a free coach, a structured eating plan, a great community and educational pieces that meant I would learn habits that would serve me for life! Initially, I wasn’t sure if much would come of this journey, but I’ve now watched thousands of people have success in their physical health, as well as their mental and financial health, since I started back in 2011.

I was excited when my dad asked for help in the spring of 2011. He was my first client and from there I started coaching friends and family all over the country. My husband, Kevin, was a police officer at the time and was working a lot of overtime. He saw how much fun I was having and a few months later decided to consider what I was doing. He started his own health journey and eventually decided to start helping people as well. He stopped working overtime and we began to build our coaching practice together. We had people who wanted to help their own friends and family so we trained them to coach and our influence has grown from there.

We have a parent company that handles many of the logistics so we just get the joy of helping clients improve their health and training coaches to create time and financial freedom doing the same thing. Our coaching practice now assists people all over the country and each month thousands of people are choosing health!

Kevin retired from the police department over five years ago and together we raise our three boys, Carson (11), Austin (almost 10) and Dylan (7). We are also fostering a little girl that we hope to adopt soon and get enormous satisfaction from giving others the option to create time and financial freedom for themselves. Our program is transformational, but simple, and our offer is amazing! We feel so honored to help others in this way and so blessed to live this one crazy life!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been an interesting journey, smooth at times and rough in others. When I started my boys were so little so I had to navigate the time it took to work in the nooks and crannies, while still being the hands-on mom that I so greatly desired. As time went on, the boys got older, Kevin joined me and together we learned creative ways to use our time so that we could live the integrated life that we both desired. We get the best of both worlds in that we get to be full-time parents and “full-time” health and business coaches. I also learned to automate and delegate many things in my life so that my time is heavily spent on the things that matter the most to me, with the people who matter the most to me.

In addition to the time constraints of having a young family, I find that women also have a bigger challenge with the emotional management it takes to lead others. I don’t mean that they don’t have the skills or talents to do the job, but for me, personally, it took a lot of personal growth to lead others without taking things personally. I feel that this personal growth has served me well in parenting, friendships, marriage and in our business. My emotional management has greatly improved with time and training. I would encourage women of any age to embrace the beautiful way that we are made and to also continue personal development and mentorship in order to show up as the best version of yourself in all areas.

Please tell us about Tinter Health.
What I do is give people their lives back! Okay, I know that sounds dramatic, but in seven years our nationwide coaching practice has impacted over 90,000 lives for health. We offer people tools and support to improve their physical, financial and mental health. We help people who are overweight, obese or just have poor eating habits to reach and maintain a healthy weight. We help people improve their mental health through relaxation, sleep, doing things of meaning and purpose in their lives, having hobbies, etc. Financially, we have an incredible business model that is simple to follow and delivers predictable results. We call it “doing well by doing good”! We are compensated to support others in their health journey and to train people to do the same with their own friends and family. We believe in living within our means, prosperity with a purpose and that healthy finances aren’t about things, but about experiences and options. We have many coaches in our coaching family who have quit jobs, paid off debt and chosen to coach full-time. We have parents who have come home and coaches who run their businesses with their spouse so they have enormous time and financial freedom as a family. Our coaches are made up of laypeople as well as medical professionals and so we come from all walks of life. We have absolutely the best job in the world!

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
In our business what works the best is to build AUTHENTIC relationships. No one likes to feel used or manipulated or coerced. We find that being INTERESTED in others by asking questions and listening to understand instead of to respond is the best way for people to feel you are genuine and trustworthy. This has brought our business organic growth!

We have found mentors through our church/faith community, our parents, leadership events, within our own business model, Dave Ramsey’s Entreleadership Summit, podcasts and books. We look for people who have what we are looking for in parenting, marriage, interpersonal skills, finances, etc. as role models in all of these areas.
