Life and Work with Arizona Rose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arizona Rose.

Arizona, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always been very creative and enjoyed designing elaborate outfits and costumes. But going to my first convention in 2017 really inspired me to get back into designing and creating. I saw people who spent months carefully designing and crafting magnificent costumes. They joined contests, took pictures, met voice actors for characters they dressed up as, and have a great time. It made me want to get back into not only designing original pieces but also join a culture where I felt right at home. Which is why I started honing my skills not only in crafting but also in taking pictures.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting something new is always a challenge, but that’s just part of the journey. If you want to be successful you need to practice, ask questions from people you look up to and work really hard. I’m lucky that I had friends who were familiar in the industry and could give me tips and teach me about different aspects of the community I wasn’t aware of. And that has helped me be more successful in creating my brand and working with other individuals in the community. My advice is if you’re really passionate about something you should put 100% into it, don’t waste your time only giving anything less because you won’t be happy with the result. Some projects will really be exciting and some will be frustrating. But once you get through that you’ll get to see your finished product and that’s something that’s really worth the effort.

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I specialize in creating costumes, taking artistic photos, and being an online persona. I take a lot of pride in designing original designs, as well as characters from popular media and bringing them to life with my own twist. I make all of my own costumes and props which is really important for me. Crafting them myself is a big point of pride when attending a convention and getting to show off all of my hard work. Or working on a photo shoot set for that particular character. Because I want to be able to embody them and bring them to life. I think what sets me apart is my attention to detail and desire to improve with every new design. I’m always trying to get better at posing, crafting, and designing. I think it’s very important to always strive to learn from what you’ve done in order to improve yourself.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
One podcast I listen to almost religiously is My Favorite Murder, which is a comedy-true crime podcast. It’s really helped me with my anxiety to realize that I’m not alone in my feelings and that it shouldn’t hold me back.
