Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Fox.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m born and raised in the East Valley of Arizona. I attended EVIT for cosmetology during my last two years at Corona del Sol High School. I graduated both and proceeded to get my cosmetology license immediately after graduation. I started working in a commission-based salon in Tempe for three years and opened Beauty by Andrea at the age of 21 in 2010. I am over 10 years in the industry and almost eight as a small business owner. I am passionately in love with what I do every day and have my wonderful clients to thank for that. I feel very blessed to call what I do as my job, as I do not feel like I have worked a day in my life. In the last 10 years, I have learned and grew personally as well as professionally. Shortly after entering the industry, I became an educator for the product and color line L`anza Healing Haircare which is still used in my salon today. L’anza saturated me into the industry and developed me into a stronger stylist.
I joined the Tempe Chamber of Commerce at the second year anniversary of my salon. Being involved with the local chamber helped get my business into a market I was missing out on. It also introduced me to other great small businesses in the community. All of my hard work and success has derived from the incredible support and encouragement from my family! They mean the world to me and have been there through everything! I married my wonderful husband, Kyle Fox in 2013. As my husband juggles two careers as a project manager and Army officer, he still makes time to support me and my salon.
Seeing that smile on every single client that sits in my chair is the ultimate reward. We are all beautiful, if I can help women and men see it on the outside we might all start to believe it on the inside. I love telling everyone “Your hair is your best accessory, wear it with confidence!” I’m hoping be in this industry for my lifetime.
Has it been a smooth road?
As smooth as it can be for opening a business in the middle of a recession haha. Having wonderful parents and a husband helping me through any struggles has been key. Advice for young women starting their journey, first educate yourself as much as you can. Be an expert in your industry. Education outside of beauty school is a must. Find your support system. Mine was family and then it grew into the Tempe Chamber. Set goals and make a plan for how you are going to achieve that goal. When struggles come around, look at them as opportunities for growth, not a setback.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Beauty by Andrea LLC – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am most proud of what I offer to my clients. I will always be honest and give every client my best possible work. My clients are my world and the heart of my business. Giving them the best of my ability is everything I work for.
Continuing my industry education keeps my skills sharp and has been essential for my growth and development. I specialize in cutting, coloring and facial waxing for men and women. Personally having curly hair, I have experienced the do’s and don’ts for curl. I love working with all my curly girls and getting them to embrace and love their natural curls! Educating clients to achieve the same styling results at home is key to keeping my client’s looking their best every day. Looking beautiful when leaving the salon is not enough. Looking that way every day is the ultimate achievement. Making sure my clients have the proper tools, products and techniques at home is a must.
Who have you been inspired by?
My mother. She always encouraged me to follow my dreams. She was a very hard working business owner, mother and wife. She showed me that us women are unstoppable and can do anything we want. Hard work does pay off and you can also look good doing it. I remember growing up watching her take the time in the mornings to do her hair and makeup. Always taking time for herself. Now, being a business owner, wife and a mother of fur babies, I have found out how important that is. When we feel good we are able to be stronger individuals and take on the world with confidence.
