Life and Work with Amy Solara

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Solara.

Amy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story is continually evolving. I began as an academic and an artist —eventually earning my Master’s degree in Design for Theater. I had spent a lifetime in the performing arts industry and was convinced that all my success was waiting for me just ahead on that path. I’ll fast forward through a short marriage, a brief stint as a cabaret & burlesque dancer and circus performer, and meeting the love of my life while touring on the road to just three years ago when I moved to Phoenix. After completing yoga teacher training while also pregnant with my first child, my life changed dramatically. My fiancée was patient as I soul searched, dove deep into various spiritual practices, and slowly grew accustomed to living the life of a stay-at-home mom. Then, I gave birth to my second son at home and became a huge home birth advocate and natural, holistic health maven. For a while, I thought I might pursue a career as a doula and midwife, but realized that was simply residual joy from the pregnancies and birth experiences of my two children.

Now, I have completed training as a life coach, and have begun taking clients as a spiritual mentor, tarot reader and yoga teacher.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My greatest piece of advice is to follow your instinct, not the voice that says should/could/would.

If I have learned anything so far, it’s that when I’ve trusted my gut instinct and intuition I’ve always come out happier, and while the road may not have been easier or painless, it was definitely more exciting and better than I could have ever predicted.

I think one of the best lessons I picked up along the way is to let myself feel. Truly and deeply. Some people spend their whole lives numbing pain, ignoring fear or running from sadness, but if you bottle those in or push them away life has a way of forcing you to feel. I think in general my life has felt much happier and I’ve experienced greater joy because of the moments that aren’t happy or joyful. I’m so grateful for the depth of experience and emotion I have found on this journey.

Please tell us about your business.
I love seeing women light up. That’s what motivates me in every type of work I have found myself in.
Right now, you could say I self-identify as a spiritual mentor, tarot reader, and life coach. I also teach yoga, mostly Buti & Vinyasa. “Buti” is a Sanskrit word that means “a hidden cure” and is the perfect name for this type of yoga — it has a vinyasa foundation, and fuses tribal dancing with HIIT training, so it kind of throws you into meditation. While that practice isn’t for everyone, I recommend that everyone at least try it!
With private clients, I love to start by reading tarot, setting some goals, and then sending them away with some kind of meditation or daily spiritual practice they can build on. I love that I can be a resource for people to use on their path to the Divine within.

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
Opportunity is everywhere. That may be cliche, but we live in a wonderful era where everyone and everything has the chance to shine. We may not all recognize it immediately, and that’s where tools like education, life coaching, and mentorship come in handy. But in my experience, if there was a career or job I wanted to pursue, all I had to do was put my mind to it. I think the same holds true for many women.
