We’re looking forward to introducing you to Michael Baxter. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Michael, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Over the last several of years I have combined my production background, with my passion for music. It’s been a whirlwind of fun and learning which has led to a whole group of new friends. I’ve enjoyed music all my life but have never played much of anything. Music has become my rabbit hole and when I jump in, time flies. Fortunately, I’ve been freelancing for 22 years so my eventually I come to my senses and get back to my day job.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Mike Baxter, and I’ve spent the last twenty-two years as a freelance Architectural Photographer. It’s been a journey building my business, as it is for most entrepreneurs. Most of my work is for luxury Designers, Builders, Developers, Hotels and Resorts. I’ve also had the opportunity to photograph every Topgolf in the United States over the last ten years. I’m quality-driven so my photo, video, and music production get my best efforts. Although I never pursued Cinematography, I bring some of those theatrics to my work, in the form of lighting. Whether it’s audio or video, I spend a lot of time on the craft.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe it’s often pride that breaks the bonds between people. Only love and humility will restore those bonds. Recognizing that life is short, helps motivate one to seize the day.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
This may count as several, but I would tell my younger self not to worry so much about where life is going. Have some confidence in your abilities, work hard, pray often, and don’t quit too soon or you’ll never see the joy that follows the hard work.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
I don’t have the intelligence, fortitude, or capacity to be in charge of the world. I trust in the one who is in control and do my best to follow His Word.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I think I’m doing a little bit of both. I’ve tried to pair my passion with responsibility. Dreams are wonderful, but if they don’t provide for you and your family, then they lose their luster. With a healthy balance of reality and hopeful ambition, I believe people can reach a higher amount of satisfaction in their profession, than just “another job” can provide.
