Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Margaret Merritt of Phoenix

We recently had the chance to connect with Margaret Merritt and have shared our conversation below.

Margaret, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I am a natural mentor and so very proud of numerous individuals that I have been able to guide to great success. One does not always realize the impact you have made in someones live, it still humbles me when people let me know how grateful they are that our paths crossed.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am the founding principal and owner of Margaret Merritt Productions, a company that provides the creative, technical, and fundamental support required for flawless fashion show execution and product styling. I began my career as a booking agent for models, specializing in runway, print, and international placements. Currently, I focus my talents on fashion show production as well as commercial styling, encompassing concept development, design, casting, styling, and staffing.

My production business continues to thrive, bolstered by a seasoned team of stylists and show producers on both coasts to meet the diverse needs of our clients.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
The world never told me who I had to be… I found my way organically thru life experiences.
To quote John Lennon “Life is what happens to you while your busy making other plans”

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Public Speaking and being called on in class! I naturally prefer behind the scenes which has served me well

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
My mother had a very strong character that I have always admired. She kept the faith thru many losses in life .She was strong, realistic and joyful even though her heart was broken. She was the matriarch of our family and we are all better because of her influence

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
