We recently had the chance to connect with jules gissler and have shared our conversation below.
jules, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
Both–I am walking a wandering path!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m juLeS. I’m an artist & a writer. The three phrases that I have embraced along my journey are: “Why not?”, “I hope it makes you smile”, & “Live your magic!”
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Not being able to trust someone breaks the bond. Sadly, once that trust is broken, I’m not sure it can be restored unless there was a miscommunication. You should at least listen and hear what they have to say and then decide if the trust can happen again.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
It would be a line from my book, “Getting Your Magic Back!” The last couple of lines of my book: “My words for you are simple, if your world should somehow crack, your heart knows what your dreams are, give them life…and get your magic back!
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
When you pass someone on a street, look them in the eye and nod, say hello, smile, or whatever is most comfortable to you, but acknowledge them.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: How do you know when you’re out of your depth?
Being out of your depth, I think, is a good thing. David Bowie said this in an interview: “If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.”
