Ally Veldstra shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Ally, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Something outside of work that brings me joy would be reading a book and enjoying a coffee by myself. It’s a simple moment, but it is a break from reality and from being “mom” for a bit. Enjoying a little solitude is good for the soul.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Ally and originally from South Louisiana. I’ve traveled a lot with my husband for his work, but we’ve finally found Arizona to be our home. I have 3 wild boys and love being a mom.
I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist since 2012 and still have love and passion for what I do. I’ve been specializing in wedding and event hair and makeup since I graduated beauty school. There’s something so magical about making people feel beautiful in their own skin.
I’m currently working on my new brand, Wanderlust Hair & Makeup. It’s time for me to build a brand that’s not just a representation of myself, but with the amazing artists I work with.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I don’t think I believed I could be so successful in so many areas of life as a child. I now know, that’s not true. I’ve found success in my relationships, friendships, work, and being a mom. It’s not always easy, but it can be rewarding.
I think younger me would be very proud to see where “we” are at now. I have success and love all around me.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You’re more amazing than you could’ve ever realized, be proud of yourself.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think my friends would say loyalty, trust, and honesty. My friends have become more like family to me and have been for years. I take my friendships seriously and myself am loyal and love big. So, when that trust and loyalty is broken, it’s never a fun position to be in. You’re grieving for something that could have still existed.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I think my customers would miss my upbeat and positive personality. I’m always trying to have fun and a good time. Life is too short not to laugh and enjoy yourself.
