Kimberly Mylls of Scottdale on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Kimberly Mylls shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Kimberly, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Who are you learning from right now?
I learn from everyone every day. I’m all about surrounding myself with people who bring different skills to the table and I have always had the philosophy of surrounding myself with people smarter than me so I can be constantly learning. I’m also part of a collective of entrepreneurs who bring out the best in each other. I learn and get inspiration from people I don’t even know, online. There’s so much incredible free content out there that if you follow the right people who inspire you, you can be learning everyday in minutes. AI is the biggest “who” I am learning right now and exploring everything there is to learn. Once you know how to use AI properly it can become one of your biggest teachers. The best way to learn, though, is by having real conversations and asking the right questions because that’s where the magic happens. You’d be surprised how much you can learn just by being curious and open to new perspectives.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a serial entrepreneur with a passion for building businesses. I’ve built online ventures, owned a brick-and-mortar business, started a nonprofit, am an international best selling author, and now, I’m focused on showing entrepreneurs how to build their personal brand and scale their businesses.

I’m the CSO at Alecci Media, where I work alongside a collective of entrepreneurs to build brands for companies that want to leave a legacy
In today’s world, building your personal brand is the key to success. It’s not enough to just know your stuff you need to show up and be known for what you stand for. That’s where Alecci Media comes in, guiding entrepreneurs to stand out in a crowded market and own their story.

I founded Sales Spark because I’ve seen so many entrepreneurs who are great at what they do but struggle when it comes to selling it. I make the process easy by showing them how to sell in a way that feels real and true to who they are. Sales doesn’t have to be scary or sleazy, once you know what to say, you can feel confident and authentic. I show founders how to tap into that confidence and make sales feel natural.

I’m also working on providing businesses with custom AI solutions to drive growth, streamline operations, and scale effortlessly. AI is revolutionizing the way we do business, and I’m excited to integrate it into the strategies I create for my clients.

At the core of everything I do is showing people how to make smart, strategic moves that lead to long-term success. Building a strong personal brand, mastering sales, and leveraging AI to scale a business are all key elements to achieving that. It’s about taking the right steps at the right time and having fun doing it.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
The people who taught me the most about work were definitely my parents. Growing up, I saw my dad work two jobs to support our family, and I learned that sometimes you just have to do what needs to be done. I watched them both work hard toward a goal, eventually becoming entrepreneurs. That passion they had for their work taught me that when you’re doing something you love, it doesn’t feel like work. As business owners, they showed me the importance of communication, integrity, and resilience. They taught me how to learn from failure and always look for opportunity in every situation, while putting people first in everything they did.

When did you last change your mind about something important?
The last time I changed my mind about something important was when I reevaluated the type of clients I wanted to work with. For a while, I took on clients that weren’t truly aligned with my values. It felt like the “right” decision at the time, financially speaking, but I realized that working with the wrong type of clients was draining, both personally and professionally. I had to get comfortable saying no to opportunities that seemed like a good fit on paper but weren’t right for me. It was tough, especially when the financial side of things made it feel like I was walking away from something smart.

But saying no to the wrong clients actually opened the door to working with the right ones, people who align with my values and vision. Once I did this, it turned out to be way more financially beneficial in the long run. By defining who I truly want to work with, I’ve created more space for projects that inspire me and clients who value what I do. Saying no to money in the short term was scary, but it taught me that working with people who respect your boundaries and share your vision is more valuable than any paycheck. It’s a total game-changer for both my business and my peace of mind.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I believe that the right people come into your life at the exact right time. There’s a reason certain connections happen when they do, and even if you can’t always see it in the moment, it always makes sense in hindsight. I also believe that every decision we make, even the tough ones, is leading us in the right direction. There’s no such thing as failure, only opportunities to learn and grow. If you have a dream in your mind, it’s because you’re meant to make it happen, and I truly believe that with the right team, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish. It’s a matter of trusting the process, knowing that every step is part of the bigger picture.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I put people first, that I made a real difference in their lives, and that I empowered them to believe in themselves. I want people to remember me as someone who was unapologetically real, who always showed up with passion and heart, and who helped others see the limitless possibilities in their own potential. I hope they’ll say that I wasn’t just a businesswoman or an entrepreneur, but someone who pushed them out of their comfort zone, made life a little better, a little easier, and a lot more inspiring for the people I crossed paths with.

I also want people to remember that I wasn’t afraid to take risks, to fail, or to change course when it was needed. I hope they’ll say that I lived with integrity, that I stood by my values no matter what, and that I led with empathy and authenticity. Ultimately, I want the story to be that I was a guiding light in showing them how to be the best version of themselves and pursue their dreams.
