We’re looking forward to introducing you to Joniqué Beach. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Joniqué, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
The outdoors, and living in Az that’s not always easy to find joy when it’s so hot outside. I like to sit outside and plant in my garden, listen and watch birds, hike local trails, and find any chance to be in or by the water! When I’m outside I feel more like myself but I often have to convince myself it will be worth it to take the first step to go outside.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Joniqué,
I am not an Az native but I have lived in Az since I was 9 months old so I feel like I am!
I run a paddleboard rental company from my home, I started during 2020 to get my kids outdoors more and it has grown a bit each year. When I first started we did group volunteer cleanups on the river, seeing people come together like that to serve was amazing!
I have found passion in Paddleboarding from my customers who become friends. Hearing their stories after they return from their adventure is so rewarding, or setting them up to make memories with their friends and families so they can enjoy the outdoors as much as I do!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
About a year ago my mom had an accident, life was moving fast for all of us and this accident stopped everyone who knew her in their tracks. It was unexpected and altered my family forever.
For me personally it made me take a look at my life, to see what was needing to stay and what was not actually a priority.
Aside from viewing things in life differently I also look at people differently now, seeing others lives for more than what was on the outside. Knowing everyone has something they are battling with while still smiling made me more appreciative of them and I want to be able to make their life a little easier even if it’s just from a compliment, eye contact, bit of service, or a smile in passing.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would say to my younger self that I do know my gut and that I am right to listen to it.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think they would say my kids/family and my alone time. I love to do things with my kids and make new experiences with them. I also love not leaving my house for days at a time!
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
Following a path that’s for me and not for others. I have lived a life for other peoples happiness and even though I chose to find joy in that life I know I would regret it down the road if I wasn’t living my life for me. Doesn’t have to be extreme but finding myself and doing what makes me happy is something I would regret down the road when I’m looking back at my life.
