Today we’d like to introduce you to Xochitl Ferrer Vera.
Hi Xochitl, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi, I’m Xochitl (So-chi) — wife, mama, and certified Birth & Postpartum Doula. My journey began after experiencing two very different births: one that left me feeling scared and uncertain, and another that showed me the power of being informed, supported, and trusting my body. That experience changed everything — it made me realize that no woman should ever feel alone or unheard in such a sacred moment.
I became a doula to help others feel empowered, seen, and confident in their strength during birth and beyond.
I’m certified through DONA International and the Madriella Doula Network, and proud to be the first Mexican woman among the first 10 doulas licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services.
It’s my honor to walk beside families as they bring new life into the world — holding space, offering support, and reminding them of the power that’s already within.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been navigating spaces where doulas aren’t always welcomed or understood. Some hospitals and providers can be dismissive of our role, and I’ve witnessed firsthand how power dynamics in birth settings can leave women feeling unheard or even disrespected.
It’s hard to stand by and see families experience that kind of treatment, but it’s also what fuels my passion even more. I’ve learned to advocate with compassion and confidence — to bridge the gap between families and medical teams — so that every person feels seen, respected, and empowered in their birth experience.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business is all about providing compassionate, culturally sensitive birth and postpartum support to families during one of the most transformative times of their lives. I’m a certified Birth & Postpartum Doula through the Madriella Doula Network and DONA International, and I also offer placenta encapsulation, belly binding, and “cierre de cadera” (closing of the bones ceremonies) as part of holistic postpartum care.
One thing that truly sets my work apart is my ability to serve Spanish-speaking families — a community that has historically faced higher rates of obstetric violence and limited access to supportive, empowering care. Being bilingual allows me to bridge that gap and ensure families feel informed, respected, and heard every step of the way.
I’m also proud to be the first Mexican woman among the first 10 doulas licensed and certified by the Arizona Department of Health Services, representing my culture and community in spaces where we’re often underrepresented.
What I want people to know most about my brand is that this work comes from the heart. Every family I serve receives personalized, evidence-based support that honors their story, culture, and choices. My goal is always to help parents feel confident, cared for, and deeply supported — before, during, and after birth.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is witnessing families step into birth feeling confident, supported, and empowered — especially those who may have felt unseen or unheard in the medical system before. Seeing a parent go from fear or uncertainty to feeling strong and proud of their birth experience fills me with so much joy.
I think it’s because I’ve been in that position myself — feeling vulnerable, overwhelmed, and unsure. Knowing that I can now be the person I once needed, and that my support can help someone have a more positive and dignified experience, is truly the most rewarding part of what I do.
