Inspiring Conversations with Virginia Almeraz of Crew of two Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Virginia Almeraz.

Hi Virginia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started this business without ever imagining what it would eventually become. It began as a small cleaning company while I was working as a mitigation technician for a restoration company. That experience taught me a great deal about restoration, property damage, and what it takes to bring a home back to life.

I was the only woman leading a team of 14 men, and earning my place in that environment was not easy. But I truly loved the company and gave everything I had to my work. When I say everything, I mean it. At the time, my daughter was only three years old, and I missed many precious moments with her because I was working such long hours. I would sometimes work for 17 hours and return at five the next morning to continue the same project. The sacrifice was not only mine.. my daughter sacrificed time with her mother while I was trying to build a future for us.

When I was eventually let go, it was one of the most painful moments of my life. I had invested my time, my energy, and a part of my daughter’s childhood into that company. I did not want to work anywhere else after that.

Eventually, I realized that losing that position was pushing me to create something of my own. I partnered with someone who understood construction and the structural side of the business, while I brought my knowledge of restoration, organization, and customer service. Together, we transformed a small idea into Crew of Two Phoenix.

What began as a cleaning business grew into a trusted handyman and property-maintenance company. Today, we help homeowners solve real problems, protect their properties, and feel confident that the work will be handled correctly. Being pushed out of a company I loved ultimately gave me the courage to build one of my own and this time, every sacrifice was building something that belonged to my family and me.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has not been a smooth road. There have been many ups and downs, and I have had to learn things I never imagined would be part of running a business. There were many nights when I cried because I did not know what to do and was afraid of failing.

I have carried the responsibility of keeping my clients satisfied, protecting the company’s reputation, having the proper tools and materials, and making sure our work vehicles, uniforms, and overall presentation reflect professionalism. I have also had to learn how to hire employees legally, work with accountants, provide insurance, and build an honest and dependable team.

As a woman in a male dominated industry, I have faced additional challenges and people who tried to stand in my way. Still, I have fought to move forward honestly, legally, and with integrity.

Building this company has required enormous sacrifice, but I still have a strong vision and many plans for its future. I am taking it one step at a time, learning through every challenge and continuing to build the kind of company I always envisioned.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Crew of two Phoenix ?

I am especially proud to have grown this business as a woman in a male dominated industry while creating opportunities for others and maintaining high professional standards. Our goal is simple: to become the trusted team our customers can call whenever their home or property needs expert care.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is learning about business from my father. He owned a business and taught me many things, even how to drive delivery trucks. When I was only about 10 or 12 years old, he trusted me to take large amounts of money to the bank and make deposits for him. Knowing that he trusted me with such a big responsibility made me determined never to disappoint him. Looking back, I realize that his trust helped shape me into the responsible and hardworking businesswoman I am today.
