Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Orscheln
Hi Tim, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have to give the credit for my entrepreneurial spirit to my Dad. I was raised in a small-town farming community in the Midwest and was taught the value of hard work at an early age. Although I deviated from those disciplines for many years as most young men do, I was never one to shy away from a challenge. In 1993 I bought a hat in Mexico from a street vendor for 50 cents and turned that purchase into a $2 million uniform and apparel company. I was off to the races after that and spent the next 30+ years building companies within the food & beverage, real estate, hospitality, roofing and now home services industry.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say the word struggle is a massive understatement. Anyone who puts on the shoes of entrepreneurship understands that you go to bed and wake up every morning chasing success only to find that it is always faster than you. As a young man the challenges almost break you until you start learning to cherish the small wins every day and not to bite off more than you can chew. Probably one of the biggest struggles that a young businessman has to learn is you can’t do it all by yourself, you have to have a deep support system, do your homework and trust those in your employment to follow your vision. Confusion creates chaos.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about HomeLyfe?
HomeLyfe was conceived through necessity. My wife and I had just purchased a new home with an over-15-year-old asphalt shingle roof. After one of our beautiful Arizona monsoons, I discovered that my roof system was starting to fail, and it led me on a journey to find a solution other than an expensive roof replacement. That is when I found Gonano, a proprietary and patented nanotechnology that will extend the life of an asphalt shingle roof up to 10 to 15 years at a fraction of the cost of a new roof. My own necessity turned into an opportunity to help others maintain and protect their homes, starting with their roof.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
1) Don’t climb over people to get to the top of the ladder, you’ll see them again on your way back down.
2) Treat the janitor with the same respect as the CEO, they might be the same person.
3) If you want to see God laugh, tell him your plan.
4) Have fun!
