Inspiring Conversations with Summer Walter of Summer Sun Design LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Walter.

Hi Summer, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began freelancing as a Summer Sun Designer after receiving my Bachelor in Fine Arts 15 years ago. Visual design has many applications, but some of my favorites are book design, logos/branding, and content creation. It wasn’t until recently that I took my freelance work from a side hustle to my main jam.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A smooth road for an artist?! Ha! I struggle with all the stereotypical things like visibility and opportunity. When I began studying graphic design and fine art, the age of computers was replacing older design methods, such as cutting shapes by hand. Then, user-friendly template programs, like Canva, made anyone a “designer.” Today, I see the next wave of technology coming in the form of AI. That will provide a world of obstacles and challenges for myself and other Visual Designers.

Summer Sun Design offers multidisciplinary visual design services for small businesses and organizations. My work packages fine art, marketing, and real-world experience into bespoke solutions. Unlike online freelance sites, I give my clients a human-to-human experience with their visuals.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I have two surprises! First, I am very passionate about being an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community! I like to provide a safe space for businesses, organizations, and individuals who need design services. Secondly, I was raised to be a beer nerd by beer nerds and married a beer nerd. If you’re a brewery or beverage biz needing design services, I’m your gal!
