Inspiring Conversations with Regine Miranda of Luck of Billing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Regine Miranda.

Hi Regine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started taking classes at Penn Foster College due to having an interest in software coding and accounting. I came across a billing and coding degree that combines both software coding and accounting. After getting my degree, I started in a medical billing company, then a family practice, to a radiology business to now opening my own Medical Billing practice Luck of Billing to assist providers in getting their max reimbursement possible.

I have a passion to assist practices that are privately owned and be able to keep their doors open by making sure the claims are paid by the insurance carriers correctly. I manage their contracts with insurance, post payments, track down denial issues, and provide revenue cycle solutions.

The financial state of a business keeps our community employed and the providers are able to focus on community care while I make sure the revenue cycle is managed. I provide solutions to practices for financial management, documentation improvement, service exploration/introduction, and much more so the providers can focus on the needs of the community.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was not a smooth road. I was going to college with a full-time job and two little ones with one on the way. With a lot of support from my husband, and drive I was able to graduate with a 3.8 GPA.

I started at a very low wage that was very hard to feed 3 children, but we made due until I was able to climb the corporate ladder and ultimately be fully self-employed. It was rough especially not having family in Arizona I can depend on to help with my children or finances. I am originally from Oakland, California, so my family is a bit too far to help.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Luck of Billing?
I provide revenue cycle assistance to medical, dental, and vision practices locally. I specialize in Family Practices, Mental Health, Radiology, Sleep Medicine, and Optometry. I am always looking to learn a new specialty, my first two clients were specialties that I did not have experience with, but the knowledge and expertise I acquired during my career equipped me to more than impress them.

I provide a personal touch for each one of my clients. I track down payments missing, get denials overturned, and help with new implementations in the practices that will recover any revenue that may have been missed in the past. I run audits and provide resources and training in order to make sure everyone from the front desk to the providers are well informed on how to maximize their revenue compliantly.

I am most proud that before 60 days of opening, I was able to secure two clients that are so amazing. All of my clients give back to the community and provide great resources for individuals and families in need. For example, Jacob’s Hope provides detox care for infants exposed to drugs and alcohol in the womb. Just 1 Life Services offer individual and familial behavioral therapy to the community. Arizona Red Mountain Eyecare provides excellent routine and medical vision services and has been established in Mesa for almost 20 years.

These are great places to give back to the community in a positive way which is what I wanted to do by using my skills and expertise to keep private practices moving forward with their agendas. I am looking to expand throughout the Greater Phoenix area to use my expertise to assist private practices, non-profits, and individual providers in increasing their revenue cycle collection and helping evolve the services provided.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I honestly have been very blessed to have had all the opportunities given to me from when I started my journey. Each manager, team lead, or business owner I acquired information from along the way has built my expertise and skills. Professionally, I have connected with great people that were more than willing to pass on knowledge and build my skills as a new coder and biller. I could not be more thankful for my professional companions.

Personally, I have had many struggles. I grew up very poor in California not knowing when my next meal may be. My father lost his business and all sources of income in the economic downturn in 2008. My father, soon after the crash, had a downturn in his health battling diabetes that spiraled him into depression. The experiences I had moving from state to state, not having a healthy parent to take care of my wants/needs, and never having a stable place to sleep made me make a change for my children.

My children are my world and I knew the only way to provide a healthy, stable environment for them was to create my own path in an industry that always has a need. At first, when I started school it was just to have a stable career, now it is to pursue my passion for keeping providers in business for themselves and creating a network in the community to create more opportunities for everyone.
