Inspiring Conversations with Mike and Katie Bargetto of Axiom Wealth Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike and Katie Bargetto.

Hi Mike and Katie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Both Katie and I started our professional careers on very traditional paths. I was a firefighter and Katie’s first job out of college was with The Boeing Company in Southern California. Up until we met each other, we both assumed we would continue working in our specialties until the typical retirement age -the path ingrained in many of us. After meeting and falling in love, Katie and I started dreaming of our future together. What we soon realized was that continuing to climb the corporate ladder for the next 30-40 years wasn’t aligned with our big, hairy audacious goals for life. We didn’t feel as though we could truly design and live out our dream life while being subject to someone else’s schedule and expectations. We realized that while working for a major corporation and the fire department, we would never truly be in control of our time; we would always be set to a certain work schedule, have limited vacation, and be at the whims of our employers.

Our goal wasn’t ever to stop working but we wanted time and freedom so we could work on things that were important to us. We realized that obtaining financial freedom was an admirable and possible endeavor so we started wrapping our minds around how that could be accomplished. The financial path we were on, i.e. maxing out a 401k, relying on pensions, and putting the majority of our wealth in the stock market wasn’t going to get us there. That is when we started exploring financial avenues that would accelerate our path to financial freedom. We started researching the financial habits and tools of the wealthy and we quickly discovered there were some common threads with many of these folks. One was that we noticed the wealthy tend to own a very specific life insurance product in order to compound their wealth- it’s a high cash value Whole Life insurance policy. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The hardest part for us was not letting the opinions of others dictate our decisions. Most people think there is nothing more stable than a corporate job, so of course, we received a lot of pushback from people in our community when we decided to leave our stable, high-paying jobs. But we knew our financial strategy needed to be shared with the masses so we took a leap of faith to break out on our own so we could share with others what we’ve learned. As certain as we were, this was still not an easy decision.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

First and foremost is our family and living our absolute best life today. Not someday in the future, but today. We want to be in full control of our time and how we spend each and every moment. Because of our financial decisions we are fortunate to experience less of a rush in our day-to-day lives. I remember being home on days off from the firehouse, but Katie still needed to be out of the house by 7am to get to the office, coffee in hand. Today, we enjoy our coffee together before the kids wake up. We work hard in our growing businesses (Axiom Wealth and our real estate portfolio) but we completely own our time.

Second is providing value to others. I honestly don’t think life would be this enjoyable if we didn’t produce and provide value to others. Finances play such an important role in life both at a conscious and subconscious level, and showing others why they should be going against the grain, so to speak, is valuable for society. You have the ability to live your dream life and it doesn’t need to be in retirement. Actually, we want to help people create a life they don’t ever want to retire from. If others knew this is actually doable in 5-10 years, more would seek it out. The financial strategy that worked for us is to build wealth in a stable and consistent manner from hard assets like real estate with a foundation of permanent life insurance.
