Inspiring Conversations with Melanie Herschorn of VIP Book Marketing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Herschorn.

Hi Melanie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
There is real magic in having a 360-degree view of how to market a book, and I want to tell you a story about my background to show you how this mission of mine was born. I’ve been a celebrity publicist pitching the media, walking red carpets at movie premieres, and in the green room at TV shows A-list celebrities. I’ve been a TV reporter, a radio news anchor, and a print journalist, telling stories and honing my writing and editing skills. Those extremely tight deadlines are no joke – if you only have 5 minutes to write a story, it’s got to be as good as if you had 5 hours! I’ve been a clothing designer, marketing my company and developing entrepreneurial skills. Selling my clothes on Nordstrom.com was a dream come true because it allowed women worldwide to wear my designs. When I shifted to marketing strategy, I had been burned by a so-called marketing guru who promised so much and delivered very little – except for a ton of verbal and emotional abuse. So, instead of packing it in and calling it quits on the entrepreneurial journey, I gathered all my experience and began helping other business owners with their marketing. I soon discovered that entrepreneurs who had written books needed help marketing them. They would share how the publishing industry didn’t offer them the marketing support they needed, and I watched firsthand how that lack of marketing was the missing piece for their dreams for their books. I jumped right in to offer guidance and accountability in a supportive way. And because I have this 360-degree view of PR, journalism, entrepreneurship, and marketing, my clients have access to my years of experience, which is a shortcut to their success!

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
The entrepreneurship journey is always bumpy. My biggest struggle has been mindset. I’ve been able to overcome a lot of mindset challenges with amazing mentors.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
As a Book Marketing Strategist, I have helped 300+ authors discover how to build their books into a business so they get booked to speak on stages and podcasts, grow an audience of engaged fans, and create lead and sales generation. Our mission is to help authors share their message with the world and to do it in a supportive way. Our programs help nonfiction and children’s book authors establish themselves as leading experts with engaging content on the right online platforms. We strive to eliminate the guesswork, which saves them time and money. We also help them develop messaging that attracts and nurtures leads consistently, grow their email list, speak on podcasts and stages, and garner media attention.

Before we go, can you talk to us about how people can work, collaborate, or support you?
If you know of an author ready to build a business using their book as the foundation, we are here to support them! Our best collaboration partners are book coaches and publishers.
