Inspiring Conversations with Maverick Mathaeus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maverick Mathaeus.

Hi Maverick, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I started as a blogger, documenting places in the world I visited and events we would attend. Then I began adding tips and discount info as well as reviews and even some promotions.

In addition to my travel blog, I began selling and trading collectibles. I’ve always collected various things and my collections just got too big so took advantage of my excess as inventory to narrow my collections and make a few dollars and friends.

Right now the bulk of my buy/sell/trade reviews is around Funko POPS.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The main obstacle to the travel and entertainment aspect is the cost. However, I’ve been lucky enough to be able to trade my services in promotions in exchange for discounted or free admission to various events.

The main obstacle on the collectibles side of my business is the number of similar businesses. So targeting and gaining the attention of customers is not always easy.

As you know, we’re big fans of your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
In many ways, it’s more of a hobby still as I have to maintain a full-time job to support myself and my kids.

Though travel blogging and social media promotions have allowed me and my kids to participate in various events and share our experiences and tips. I am always looking for collaborators on family-friendly travel, events, and entertainment in Arizona, California, and Nevada. Metro Phoenix just had so many great restaurants, entertainment, and events to explore.

On the collectibles side, I started doing trade shows and selling online, but have seemed to find that monthly sales at my house and social media interactions have been just as successful with less stress and work.

We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
The biggest risk on the entertainment side is really just being willing to reach out to businesses and being told not interested.

The biggest risk on the collectibles side is buying large collections or purchasing inventory, not knowing if the resell will be successful or a loss.
