Inspiring Conversations with Maggie Jenkins of Little Sleepy Bear

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Jenkins.

Maggie Jenkins

Hi Maggie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started working with children when I was 14 when my first little brother was born. In 2019, I decided to become an au pair in the USA and stayed for 2.5 years with the same family here in Phoenix. I then started babysitting jobs and got hired for a family with a 2-month-old little girl. They were first-time parents and wanted someone with experience to walk them through parenthood and help them with their daughter’s development. That’s what I did for 2 years. I loved being a “coach” for this family and showing them things to do with their baby, milestones coming next, etc. I started thinking about a career that I could do besides Nanny because when you are a nanny, you can’t stay with the same family forever. Kids grow up, family situations change, etc. I also wanted a career that would allow me to be with my kids. I researched to find a career in the childcare industry, working with parents and babies, and I found Sleep Consulting. In May 2022, I started my certification, and in January 2023, I got certified with the Cradle Coach Academy. I helped many families in the USA, Canada, France, and the UK with Singletons, Twins, and triplets.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It was smooth at all! During my certification, I had to practice with volunteers. Unfortunately, some didn’t take it seriously, ghosted me after the job was done, and never ultimately got the form my teacher needed, so I had to start from zero.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a certified baby and toddler sleep consultant, and I created Little Sleepy Bear in August 2022 to help tired moms understand their child’s sleep and improve it. When I work with my family, I support their lifestyle and help them manage a schedule appropriate for their child’s sleep but also fit their daily routine. Often, families have multiple children and don’t know how to manage older children’s schedules (school, activities) and their baby’s sleep. I really like doing that because many parents think that sleep training their children has to involve a strict schedule when it’s not necessarily the case. I recently became a mom in June 2023, and having my daughter helped me understand moms more and opened my mind to new perspectives like bed-sharing and breastfeeding. Bedsharing is a hot topic in the sleep industry and is often seen as the worst and unsafe sleep practice, but people don’t know that you can bedshare safely with your baby. I’ll be sharing more about this subject, and I want moms to feel confident about it and not ashamed. Little Sleepy Bear offers support and help for all families who want better quality sleep, whether bed transitioning, night wake-ups, night feed weaning, short naps, schedule issues, how to manage daycare and sleep, and more. All my coaching is online, and moms can expect to see the first results within 3 days and all problems resolved within 2 weeks. I adapt my sleep plan to the child and the family dynamic.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Children are different, but they can all sleep great (as long as nothing medical is involved). Trust the process and stay consistent. When we start giving up, we often need to keep going because this is when changes are happening! That’s what I tell my families during the coaching, and at the end, they are all so happy they kept going and didn’t give up.
