Inspiring Conversations with Lindsey Dyer of Rooted Expressions, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Dyer.

Hi Lindsey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I was always drawn to helping others. My mother spent her career teaching students with moderate to severe disabilities, and her dedication had a lasting influence on me. In college, I took a communication disorders course and immediately knew I had found my calling.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in May 2007 and moved to Arizona shortly thereafter, where I began working in school districts. While working full time, I completed my Master’s degree at Nova Southeastern University in 2012. I then spent a year and a half in home health before returning to the schools in 2014, around the same time I started my family.

In 2017, I began working PRN in an outpatient clinic, which allowed me to broaden my clinical experience and serve a more diverse population across settings. Within the school system, I continued to grow professionally and eventually stepped into a leadership role as the district’s Lead Related Service Provider.

Despite these opportunities, I felt something was missing. I have always placed a high value on building strong, meaningful relationships with students and families. As homeschooling options expanded for some of the families I served, I was given the opportunity to continue supporting them outside of the traditional school setting. From that experience, Rooted Expressions, PLLC was born.

Since June 2025, I have been able to continue my role in the schools while intentionally growing my private practice, allowing me to serve families in a way that feels both grounded and deeply aligned with my values.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, the journey with Rooted Expressions, PLLC has been relatively smooth. I have been intentional about growing the practice thoughtfully and sustainably, taking things one step at a time. While building a private practice always comes with learning curves, approaching growth gradually has allowed me to balance my roles, maintain quality of care, and stay aligned with my values as the practice continues to develop.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Rooted Expressions, PLLC is a pediatric speech-language therapy practice dedicated to providing individualized, relationship-centered care to children and their families. Services are designed to support communication development across speech, language, social communication, and functional skills, with a strong emphasis on meeting each child where they are and building upon their unique strengths.

The practice specializes in working with children with a wide range of needs, including language delays, speech sound disorders, and neurodevelopmental differences. Rooted Expressions, PLLC is known for its warm, family-centered approach and for prioritizing meaningful relationships as the foundation of effective therapy. Collaboration with caregivers is a core value, ensuring that progress extends beyond sessions and into daily life.

What truly sets Rooted Expressions, PLLC apart is its intentional, thoughtful model of care. Therapy is never one-size-fits-all. Sessions are play-based, evidence-informed, and tailored to support functional communication in real-world contexts. The practice values flexibility, responsiveness, and continuity of care, which has been especially impactful for families seeking alternatives to traditional service delivery models.

Brand-wise, I am most proud of the trust families place in Rooted Expressions, PLLC. My practice was built organically through relationships and word-of-mouth, reflecting a strong alignment between clinical expertise, integrity, and genuine care. At its core, Rooted Expressions represents a commitment to helping children find their voice while supporting families with compassion, clarity, and purpose.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I do not consider myself a high-risk taker in the traditional sense. Instead, I view risk as something to be approached thoughtfully, with intention and preparation. Throughout my career, I have been careful to make decisions that align with both my personal values and professional responsibilities, particularly when balancing work, family, and long-term sustainability.

Starting Rooted Expressions, PLLC was a meaningful risk, even though it was a calculated one. Building a private practice while continuing to work in the school setting required stepping outside of a familiar structure and taking on new responsibilities, from business operations to compliance and long-term planning. Rather than taking a leap all at once, I chose to grow gradually, allowing the practice to develop organically through established relationships and demonstrated need. This approach helped mitigate financial and professional risk while maintaining quality of care.

My perspective on risk is rooted in trust: trust in my training, experience, and ability to adapt. I believe that meaningful growth often requires some level of discomfort, but that risk does not have to be rushed or reckless. When approached with clarity, preparation, and patience, risk can become an opportunity to build something both impactful and sustainable.
