Inspiring Conversations with Leanne Shearer of Undone and Uncensored

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leanne Shearer.

Hi Leanne, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
People are my passion and they always have been. Even as a small child, I loved taking care of people. I could sense how they were feeling even if they were trying to hide it.

Looking back, I had a special, innate knowing that, I suppose, was a blessing and a curse until I learned that it wasn’t my “job” to fix everyone. In 2005, I married my husband, an owner of two Anytime Fitness franchises. I became a cycling instructor and channeled my skills into teaching and helping women at the gym.

Watching other people, including myself, fall in and out of exercise and “diets” prompted questions for me. Why do people start feeling and looking better and then just seem to quit… just to start over again? A vicious cycle for so many. I wouldn’t describe myself as a traditional intellect but when it comes to human behavior, I find it fascinating. This is what led me to become a health and wellness coach and start a podcast in 2022.

In March 0f 2023, my husband was diagnosed with two non-operable, grade 4 brain tumors. Amid the devastation of what that means for us as a family, I am forced to take a hard look at every belief I have ever had, including the advice that I give to others and the way I live my life.

In an article recently published about my business (I had been interviewed knowing my husband was ill), they chose to highlight a specific quote from the interview: “I show people how powerful they are”. Rereading this article was a turning point for me as I realized that this is what the old saying “when the rubber meets the road” is all about.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I had a few struggles with starting my podcast. There were many learning curves when it came to understanding the technology of podcasting. I also struggled with overthinking the episodes as I knew that judgment would come with the public format of podcasting. As I let go of trying to be perfect, I was able to speak more genuinely and from my heart.

I find working with clients to be an incredibly smooth journey. I love watching them transform by helping them shine a light on their current behaviors and the reasons they continue doing things that are counterintuitive to their goals.

I most recently have been focused on caring for my husband and have put the podcast and coaching on the back burner. As I prepared for this interview, I realized that right now is important. Undone and Uncensored was the name I gave my podcast for a reason. It isn’t about being presentable or perfect… it is about raw and real, sometimes that creates laughter and sometimes tears. I am eager to pick up the mic this week and talk about the things we all like to pretend will never happen to us.

We’ve been impressed with Undone and Uncensored, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
