Inspiring Conversations with Kira Young of High Tide Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kira Young.

Hi Kira, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Hi, my name is Kira. I am the creator, founder, and principal designer of High Tide Design. I live in North County San Diego where I developed a love for the ocean and a creative eye.

I started my design journey as a sales associate at a furniture store working full-time there, I was also going to school to earn a design degree. Later on, I was promoted to lead designer and eventually a store manager. Knowing that design is my true passion, I left retail and worked at a large firm where I was involved in almost every project size, style, and type imaginable. I have had the opportunity to design a wide range of projects from resident clubhouses, gyms, outdoor entertainment areas, and landscapes to small footprints room makeovers, you name it.

Fast forward to the present. High Tide Design continues to grow as I’m helping more and more people create authentic spaces for them to enjoy. I continue to be passionate about a more holistic approach to designing.

Understanding the ebbs and flows and providing solutions to bettering my clients’ health and well-being. “Every project begins with carefully listening to my clients so I can create a clear vision of their needs and present them with designs and services that exceed their expectations.”

Today, I enjoy collaborating with clients and tradesmen to craft beautiful and liveable spaces that are a reflection of their dreams, desires, and lifestyle. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, spontaneous inspirational getaways, surfing, discovering new restaurants, and spending time with my loved ones.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the challenges in the design industry is the trends that can change at any given time. I aspire to design a space that reflects our client’s way of living. My work provides a meaningful design with functionality that creates a long-lasting style that a client can modify as life shifts and changes.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
High Tide Design is a full-service interior design firm specializing in residential and boutique commercials. We can assist with a wide range of projects including, architectural details and finishes, space planning, furniture layout, furnishing and styling, storage solutions, and photoshoot styling. We offer a variety of packages to meet each client’s budget to achieve their design needs.

What sets us apart is the design, collaboration, vision, trust, and transparency between my clients and me. There are so many crucial decisions to be made and I believe that these are important key elements throughout the entire process. My core value has always been to help, I listen to the clients carefully and provide the most memorable design services to transform the client’s vision into reality. We take on all project sizes and it is rewarding to see our clients enjoy the space they have envisioned and we were able to help them make it happen.

No project is one size fits all. Aside from full-service design where we handle everything from start to finish, our most popular service is called “A La Carte” where we individualize services to cater to our client’s specific needs.

For example, clients at times purchase things they find appealing but struggle to piece together the aesthetic they are looking for. This translates to lost time and frustration for them and this is where we can make the process more enjoyable. As well as, if the client has already been working with a contractor and needs help with finalizing materials and finishing details, we can be their liaison. We can help with specification documents between them and the construction team to reduce the back and forth and make the process seamless to put the client at ease.

Other services like E-Design are available to anyone who can implement all design ideas themselves. Furnishing & Styling services are a great opportunity to focus on transforming a house into a beautiful and functional home. Much of the scope of the work will be outfitting the home as-is, so it is a quick and satisfying transformation. The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and are any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid has changed the way people live and work with more people prioritizing health and wellness. Companies are offering flexible schedules and the ability to work from home. This has led to the need for home offices and home gyms are in demand.

Now that it has been a few years, people have had time to spend at home, they realized how important it is to have functional spaces. This has contributed to an increase in home remodeling or a one-room makeovers. As a designer, my responsibility is to advise, guide and provide clients with creative ideas. I offer services that ease their stress and deliver the finished spaces in a new wholesome look they love.
