Inspiring Conversations with Kelsey Hilfigure of Wild & Well Flowers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Hilfigure.

Hi Kelsey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Of course! Wild & Well Flowers started during a season when I realized I didn’t have much wildness or wellness in my own life. I’d spent a long time doing what I thought I was “supposed” to do, but I was missing creativity, joy, and connection with nature.
A dear friend and I used to dream together during tough days at work. She mentioned flower trucks and bouquet bars she’d seen elsewhere, and it lit something up in both of us. Each of us have always loved floral design. But when I started learning more about the floral industry, I struggled. It was hard to reconcile my love for flowers with my values, which include caring for the environment.
Then I discovered the community of local flower growers here in Arizona, and they gave me hope. Seeing the way they’re growing sustainably and thoughtfully made me believe that it was possible to enjoy flowers and live my values at the same time. We might not always be able to source locally, but we are taking steps towards sustainability whenever we can. That’s when the vision for Wild & Well really started to bloom: I wanted to bridge the gap between sustainable flowers and the people who long for them in their everyday lives.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been ups and downs, and I think that’s part of the story. On a practical level, building the bouquet bar with my Dad was its own adventure, especially in the Arizona summer heat. Starting a business is full of unknowns, and I’ve had to grow the muscle of doing things scared or doing them before I feel ready.
But honestly, that ties right back into our values. One of our core values is imperfection – honoring authenticity over perfection. So now, when something doesn’t go exactly as planned, I try to celebrate it as “living my values.” That’s been freeing, and it’s something I want my guests at the bouquet bar to feel too: that joy and beauty can be found even in the imperfect.
It’s also been about re-learning how to have fun, and giving myself permission to embrace wildness and wellness together. The process itself is shaping me, not just the outcome.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Wild & Well Flowers is a mobile bouquet bar based in Arizona’s East Valley. We pop up at markets and bring the bar to events, where guests can grab a basket, wander through fresh local blooms, and build their own bouquet. It’s a hands-on, joyful experience rooted in sustainability.
We also offer miniature dried flower magnets, handmade by me. Most of the flowers are locally grown, some even from my own garden. They’re a way to carry a bit of floral joy into your everyday life, something you can keep and enjoy long after market day.
What sets us apart is our values. Everything we do comes back to wildness, wellness, imperfection, and sustainability. We source seasonal flowers from local growers as much as we can, use secondhand materials whenever possible, compost leftover waste, and wrap bouquets in biodegradable paper and twine. But more than our practices, it’s about the balance of “wild” and “well.” Wildness is about freedom, creativity, and joy. Wellness is about caring for ourselves, our communities, and the planet. Together, they create an experience that feels both fun and grounded.
Too much wildness without wellness can be harmful, but together they create freedom that is rooted. Too much wellness without wildness can feel heavy, but with a touch of play, it becomes whole. With imperfection and sustainability guiding the choices, the business feels authentic and intentional.
What I’m most proud of is that Wild & Well isn’t just about flowers. It’s about creating an experience that reminds people that beauty, joy, and connection belong in their everyday lives. Flowers are the tool, but the heart of it is people. And when our choices care for both people and the planet, it deepens the meaning of every bouquet we create together.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Yes! I’d love to share a little bit about the heart behind Wild & Well Flowers and the hopes I carry for it.
At the end of the day, I want people to know that flowers aren’t just “extra.” They can be part of wellness, joy, and community. Whether it’s arranging a bouquet at the bar or keeping a dried flower magnet on your fridge, flowers are a way of slowing down and remembering what matters.
For me, that reminder has always been rooted in the globemallow, my favorite desert flower. I lived in Arizona my whole life before I really noticed it. It is this little apricot-colored bloom that feels both wild and delicate at the same time. It became a kind of symbol for me of what I want Wild & Well to be: joy tucked into the everyday, beauty in unexpected places. And one of my dearest friends created the artwork for our logo based on that bloom, which makes it even more meaningful. It’s not just about flowers; it’s about the people and connections tied to them.
My hope is that Wild & Well helps people live a little more wild and a little more well, and that over time, sustainable, locally grown flowers become the natural choice in our community. But more than that, I want people to feel seen and cared for through this experience. Flowers are just the medium; the heart of it is connection.
